Tunic tops that are swingy not clingy??

I neeeeed one (or three) that don't make my arse look like a badly stuffed cushion.

This is admittedly quite a tall order given that I'm a pear-shaped 16-18 (well okay 18 then).

Requirements:

  • preferably not the ditsy 'pregnant fairy' empire line stylee
  • A-line would be superb, preferably fitted to the waist as I do actually have one
  • non clingy fabric (to avoid the cushiony-arsed look)

Does such a thing exist?

can't get link to work?

swinginess from the waist down but without dressness. Confused

Does that exist?

HouseOfBamboo · 19/09/2010 23:00

dunno Grin It's a bit like the holy grail as far as I'm concerned!

I'm sure a short dress type thing would be fine, as long as it looked okay with leggings/jeans. And it doesn't need to be life-of-its-own swingy, I'd be happy with something that was even moderately independent from my bottom.

Not dressy? Or is that the wrong shape?

HouseOfBamboo · 19/09/2010 23:20

Still can't get link to work Sad

Am off to bed but will do some more searching and check back tomorrow.

This could be good.

Maybe this but some sizes sold out I notice Hmm

Or this this one

brimfull · 20/09/2010 09:01

I think any jersey top will cling , no matter how big your arse is
You need to wear sucky in nipple to knee gok pants to avoid the lumy look , and I alwasy find the waistband of jeans makes tunics look shite.
Linen works as it doesn't cling. I am looking for longish linen tunicy thing to wear with jeans , I find most are too long for me .

superv1xen · 20/09/2010 09:27

omg barrington i love that la redoute one -goes to locate credit card- :o

superv1xen · 20/09/2010 09:28

actually i meant the first one but they are all lovely

HouseOfBamboo · 20/09/2010 09:29

BW - hmm yes the first two are possibilities, esp the first one, will have a closer look. The third is a bit on the short side for me.

Ggirl - yes jersey is a bugger, though I do have a tunic made from v THICK t-shirt material which is better than most. Linen or denim would be great, will have a google.

Another look I want to avoid is the long shirt and leggings one, I did that a lot in the 80s and now it just makes me feel like I've forgotten to put my skirt on or something.

I really like the shape of the first one, it has a proper waist and everything.

Have found this one - too leopard printy for me, but the basic shape is good:

New Look

Although, on the model it looks oddly short and almost empire line - maybe she is a giant...

This is nice - a bit low cut round the neck, but it could maybe be layered:

I have just the same problems as you HofB, but I also want scoop or v neck as otherwise boobs look hideous!!! Yes, it's a tall order. But last year I found a nice tunic in Next. Can't see it this year, but have been considering this one

snail1973 · 20/09/2010 14:22

Or dare the mention the 'B word'?? Boden... They have a denim one which is just about still in stock here

accessorizequeen · 20/09/2010 14:32

toast cotton linen tunic?

superv1xen · 20/09/2010 15:16

i love that new look one HOB but its for kids isnt it :o on the sizing bit it says ages (ie 11 - 15) rather than size 8, 10, 12 etc.

wonder if i could fit into a size 15 yo ... -hopeful- :o

HouseOfBamboo · 20/09/2010 15:41

Ah yes, so it is - good job I didn't want it eh Blush Grin

Snail - hmm, the Boden one is quite nice. I can't make the Next link work at all, just get a blank screen?

AQ - that Toast one looks fab on the model, exactly the look I'm after (allowing for my much fatter arse of course). It looks a different shape on the flat pic though Confused I guess you'd have to try it on to see. Do Toast do discount codes?

OP posts:
accessorizequeen · 20/09/2010 15:58

I have a 10% discount on the latest toast catalogue, don't know if you can get more.

superv1xen · 20/09/2010 21:28

i just found this

any good? its more of a dress but could work with leggings or skinny jeans i think.

superv1xen · 20/09/2010 21:30

its the grey chiffony dress between the shiny leggings and floral dress, couldnt do a link for the bloody thing on its own!

HouseOfBamboo · 21/09/2010 11:08

The chiffony one is a nice shape, the ruffles are a bit scary Might be good for an evening outfit though.

I'm almost tempted by the one above the shiny leggings and chiffon top - it looks wearable, though possibly a bit empirey, would have to try it on to see...
