I'm 41 - too old for skinny jeans?

I'm a youngish looking 41 and still slim - can I get away with skinny jeans, nothing dressy, just with boots and a jumper etc. I have "really good long legs" to quote my DH, so I do worry in case I look a bit like a tart?!!
Anyone else my age wear them?

Last months Good Housekeeping had a pic of Sandra Howard wearing skinny jeans- she is 70 this year and looked fantastic.

If you are trim then they are fine- if you are overweight then no. But then overweight and jeans don't look good anyway no matter what type of jeans.

Mooos is right. I think older women and by that I just mean not young, will look at their figure and ask themselves the harsh question, have I got the belly/ass/legs for this.

A lot of young girls will just wear it regardless.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 18/09/2010 22:46

I agree it's not your age that counts its your shape.

I'm 47 with decent legs but an hourglass figure which is slightly hip-heavy. So skinnies are like having an arrow pointing to my widest area. Not so for everyone.

I've got some on and I can't remember how old I am Wink It's your shape that counts no matter what age you are.

The trick is to avoid any that have variegated patches of colour/ sanding, fashionable rips, etc.

allluckedout · 19/09/2010 14:17

agree its not your age but your weight/figure rule for skinny jeans that apply, but remember skinny jeans are out this season! (apparently)

NorbertDentressangle · 19/09/2010 14:25

I'm 43 and wear them (admittedly with a long top and boots not with a skimpy t-shirt!)

Agree that if you've got the sort of figure that can wear them then go ahead regardless of age.

Lets face it we've all seen teenagers, 20 somethings that should not be wearing them.

MimsyStarr · 19/09/2010 14:49

Yes, absolutely. I just bought my first 'skinnies' at 40 and absolutely love them. They're from Uniqlo. Wish I'd found them years ago.

chipmonkey · 19/09/2010 14:56

I am 41 and will wear them after I've lost another 3 stone.

princesstumble · 19/09/2010 21:15

I think it depends on your figure. 41 isn't old. If you look great in them, go for it!

CoalFace · 19/09/2010 21:19

Like Chipmonkey - if I lost 3 stone I'd be in them tomorrow. Get em on.

pointydog · 19/09/2010 21:35

Of course you're not too old for them. You just need to have slim legs - and slim calves in particular - to wear skinny jeans.

thelunar66 · 19/09/2010 21:42

God no.. I wear them and I'm older than you.

Like Bonsoir says... there is only 'too fat' no such thing as 'too old'.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 20/09/2010 14:24

Don't you think the shape of the hips counts as well, Pointy?
I feel utterly self-conscious of the slight flaring at the top of my legs/hip bone when I wear them, although do have nice legs and can wear skirts above the knee.
