anyone had experience of both? recommendations?
anyone work for either?

It seems to be £90 for 90 mins 1-1 with CMB
or 5ish hours of 4-1 for £90 with HoC.

Undecided.

TIA.

I had my colours done this morning. I am an Autumn, which was not what I expected! She was very good, quite young and also nicely dressed in jeans, heels, a nice top and modern necklace. She also recommended Kettlewell for clothing that is categorised by colour season, which I like the look of - colour shopping for dummies!

GreatGooglyMoogly · 30/09/2010 12:36

Oh, she also explained that they use shiny materials when working out your colours as they drape better on you whereas my wallet of swatches are much more matte, which suits me better.

Dorothyredboots · 30/09/2010 14:40

GreatGoogly - Kettlewell colours are very good - it is not cutting edge fashion but good quality t shirts & tops in colours other than black and grey. They do basic t shirts and camisoles in lots of colours. I like the things that are 100% cotton best, although I do have the skirt and matching top in the viscose. They are quite clever in their design as the necklines on the different items layer very well and it is easy to do the several colours thing!

MagicFest · 30/09/2010 21:19

Wow, everyone's been busy! If it's any help Slinkyboo, I couldn't make head nor tail of the books and when I find things on line they get distracted by the fact that I have freckles, was blonde as a child and have red tones in my hair and send me down the wrong track.
Nothing like the personal service of having it done on yourself in front of a mirror so that you can see it obviously works or doesn't.
have fun GooglyMoogly!

geordieminx · 30/09/2010 21:33

ripwhere did you get yours done as I don't think you are far from me?

RipMacWinkle · 30/09/2010 21:44

Geordie, I saw the House of Colour lady, there's only one consultant for Glasgow

Here

You considering it for you or someone else?

geordieminx · 01/10/2010 08:41

Thinking of it as a christmas present to me Grin

GreatGooglyMoogly · 03/10/2010 08:39

Has anyone done the make-up session without first doing the image one? I'm not sure if they have to be done in sequence or not.

Dorothyredboots · 03/10/2010 12:35

I think you can do the make up without doing the image. As long as you know your season I think it would be OK. Image does not cover make up at all.
I'm doing scarf tying next weekend. It's only £15. I'm going with a friend; should be a laugh as we are both dismal when it comes to scarves. Bet I end up buying one; gets expensive this looking good business.

snail1973 · 03/10/2010 19:05

I had my colours done with HoC this week. It was great, but I am a bit scared by the results!! I am an autumn, and I can honestly say I hardly have any clothes in the right colours at the moment - help!

Anyone know of other good shops/websites (other than kettlewell which my consultant also recomended) that do nice 'autumn' colours in sizes 18-20?

And what do you do about jeans???? I live in mine but according to my colours I am not supposed to wear blue or denim colours. Errr, help. Can't wear brown trousers all the time...

BTW - I booked a make-up session next, so my consultant at least was happy to do that before an image day.

Dorothyredboots · 04/10/2010 09:09

Welcome to the club snail! I think that most people feel like you do when they have just had their colours done. With regard to jeans - most people continue to wear them whatever their season - just put one or two of your double stars on the top half. You may find in time that you no longer want to wear the blue jeans any more. In addition to your brown trousers you do have your darker greens and aubergine which you may be able to find in cords or moleskins. I would inagine any chino type mink/mushroom colours might also work? With regard to finding stuff it really is a question of looking till you drop as no one shop does the colours for a particular season. Lands End have a big colour range in T shirts etc and M & S often have basics. Boden have some different colours too. I'm a Spring and business wear is a nightmare as is evening wear. Be patient and it will come. I find I have less clothes now but I wear them all. My consultant advises walking away if things are not 100% and although frustrating it is good advice. You may find that you are prepared to spend a bit more on stuff once you are in the groove as you know it will be right. I have just bought a jacket from Hobbs NW3 collection which was £159 - but it is a fab colour and exactly the right style and goes with everything in my wardrobe - I know it will be worth the money and I will enjoy wearing it.

ColourfulClare · 15/10/2010 19:05

Specifically to Slinky Boo as one lady said you are better to have a personal session as you get,not just an idea of your best colours, but how to wear them and why!

There are companies who do styling and colours on-line but there is nothing like seeing it and feeling it - a bit like actual shopping rather than online!

This really does take away all the confusion and it's fun! I agree with wwwy you can get much from a book...don't forget they are written by us consultants!

PS for the cynics who think I am bound to say that, from what I can gather I am based several hundred miles away from most of you in Cornwall! I will now butt out but its been interesting to "meet" you on this thread!

karenje · 16/10/2015 14:59

Hello, I have had my colours done by House of colour and Colour me beautiful and both say different. HOC says Winter and Colour me beautiful says Autumn. Help!

1moreglassplease · 16/10/2015 16:07

I had my colours done by CMB just over a week ago. I had a colour analysis and make up session for ?165 and it was a 121. I would have guessed to being a cool person, but was astounded to be Clear/Warm. Amazed how different those colours made me look too. It's made me more aware of colour in clothes and will definitely look to buy those colours more in future. She put some different coloured make up on me and it definitely made a difference too, so I'll definitely invest in some different colours. Well worth the money in my experience.

Hopefully · 16/10/2015 16:16

karenje did you 'see' it with either analysis? I rate HoC far more than CMB, but I am a HoC analyst, so I would Wink

HopefulAnxiety · 16/10/2015 16:33

snail there should be an Autumn thread in S&B, have a dig about. Otherwise as Dorothy said, chinos/cords might be good alternatives to denim, or coloured jeans in Autumn colours (depending on your best colours, teal or warm burgundy etc). Boden and M&S should have some things in your size.

KJones123 · 27/01/2016 15:25

Interesting to hear your thoughts, I trained with House of Colour 13 years ago as I honestly felt their training was superior to CMB and I felt I would be looked after better as a franchisee owner just starting up my own business. I like to think the actual colour analysis and personal styling experience is more thorough with HofC but I'm obviously rather biased! I had my colours analysed by HofC 18 years ago before I trained and it definately changed my life! When I went to mother and baby classes with 2 tiny people who never let me sleep, my friends would actually tell me I looked well ! I put that down to wearing the right colours and crucially being brave enough to wear lippy even though I didn't feel like it!!!

elodiemelodie · 01/09/2016 12:21

they really need to see your skin tone in a proper light so online i don't think would work. also a warm skin tone doesn't always mean spring or autumn as i have warm skin tone and I'm a summer as i need cooling down. so it can mean the opposite

frithuswith · 09/12/2017 20:42

Resurrecting this thread because I decided to have my colours done. Had a lovely day with HoC and am really pleased with my colours, but they seem to have changed so that you now get printed paper swatches rather than proper fabric ones. For me was a huge disappointment as printed paper and fabric look completely different.

House of Colour don't make this clear on their website, so just be aware beforehand that's what you will get.

Artyfarty555 · 09/12/2017 23:01

What season are you?

frithuswith · 10/12/2017 21:16

Autumn, which seemed more appropriate yesterday than today. (As our poor snowman gradually defrosts in the garden.)

mousemoose · 11/12/2017 00:45

Has anyone ever been wrong with HoC? I went to a really well respected consultant in Primrose Hill - I really enjoyed it and thought she was lovely, but I really am doubting now that the analysis was right. I'm apparently a bright spring. Initially i loathed all the colours but gave it a really good go (like for 18 months) but I still suspect I'm actually an autumn. Teal I would say is definitely my standout colour - i can see it and other people always comment when i wear it, it really brings my eyes to life, but that's not spring. I also can't wear the spring lippy or see that the colours are flattering on me at all. what should I do?

Mamia15 · 11/12/2017 07:50

GO back to your consultant.

bleughhh · 11/12/2017 13:59

Oh, mousemoose, I think I went to that one... (HOC?). I am mildly obsessed and had my colours 'done' (often as part of something else) 4 times. (I know, I know.) I really think it can make a huge difference when some people wear the right colours.

The two CMB people had me as a 'bright spring' (in the olden days when I had it done) or 'clear and warm'. The primrose hill HOC person had me as a winter. And the south london HOC person thought spring. Anyway, the only thing I can deduce is I suit 'clear' colours - not overly warm or cool. (Somebody else had me as a winter too. Not helpful...!)

You could try going back to the primrose hill person if it's free... do you dye your hair a colour quite different from your natural colour? Just a thought as that could change your overall look. I know it's not meant to make a difference as they can put a sheet over your hair or something but it makes a big difference to me when I go too light or too dark.

mousemoose · 13/12/2017 15:00

Wow that is really interesting. I might go again here (have moved house). I can definitely tell I'm warm, but I think I'm autumn. I'm just going to try a few colours from that and see how I get on.
