What do you wear with a winter maxi skirt?

I really like the maxi skirts that are about but what do you wear with them?

I always stick to flat sandals with my summer ones but no idea what will be a good look for autumn and winter.

Also, what would you put on the top half?

A damp, greying hem and a sheepish look?
No idea, sorry.

my guess is (but this is from when they were last around) is to wear them with boots (DM perhaps) or ballet pumps. I think the top half should either be floaty and long (if you are long and narrow) or very fitted if you are not.
