If you have shortish legs and a bit of an arse but you like looking fairly 'on trend' - what do YOU wear?!

If you find out, tell me. Skinny jeans (high waisted or not) look bloody awful on me; ditto leggings. Watching with interest.

tulpe · 14/09/2010 17:36

Straight leg jeans are your friend.

Full length leggings are also more forgiving on short legs - try Top Shop longer length leggings. You need to cover your ass with either a tea dress or a straight-ish tunic dress. Anything too A-line will accentuate your ass.

Thanks tulpe The thing is then i am not sure which shoes to wear with said straight jeans...or leggings

I like the peg trouser and brogue look - but dare not
I like the above the knee dress/skirt with ankle boots - but dare not

and agree with LCPO I have worn skinny jeans lots but am aware that I look like a parsnip. My arse isn't even bad. It's just not suited to the ongoing war against normal figures which is mounted year on year by the designers ...HmmGrin

it's so frustrating. the days of bootcut and heeled boots are never coming back are they...

shoe-wise, I either go for:

converse
ballet pumps
ankle boots (with mid-heel)
biker boots
knee high flat brown boots

Allora · 14/09/2010 22:44

will try
thanks for your suggestions

Bootcut is back in though - in both Grazia and Glamour at the mo!

Try Gap Long and Lean jeans (don't need to be long and lean IFYSWIM) and Top Shop Skinny flare.

Wedge boots on trend and could look ok with either - as long as jeans nearly to the floor.

flibbertigibbert · 14/09/2010 23:09

I'm short of leg and fat of arse and I find straight leg jeans most flattering.

I think bootcut is good on people with long legs but they're less flattering if you're short.

I buy my jeans from New Look or Dorothy Perkins and wear them with ballet pumps, though I'm on the lookout for some nice ankle boots.

Dresses - tea dress style - and opaque tights also look good.

resistanceisfutile · 14/09/2010 23:25

I'm stumpy legged too. In addition I'm a complete freak in that my legs are more or less the same width all the way up - which means slimmish thighs, but chunky calves and fat ankles :(

I wear straight legged jeans and ankle length leggings although tend to wear with shoes with a heel or wedge to give my legs extra length / shape.

I look crap in ballet pumps due to lack of ankles.

tulpe · 15/09/2010 07:32

Agree with Flibbertigibbert re: bootcut jeans. I think they are very unflattering to short legs. However this also depends on the rise. A mid-rise is more flattering than lower rise as it elongates the leg a little more. However, I do think straight legs are just more chic and look smarter even when dressed down.

Bootlegs are just a bit too "woman at M&S" for me :). I always envisage them worn with chunky heeled ankle boots and a faux sheepskin gilet.

snoozathon · 15/09/2010 07:39

Ankle boots with dress - don't do it! Ankle boots or shoeboots chop you off at the ankle and make your legs look shorter.

Tunic dress or tea dress with heeled mid-calf boots - much more flattering. I think it's because they look like knee-high but there's more leg on show so they look longer.

snoozathon · 15/09/2010 07:45

Jumper dresses which skim the waist are good too - Warehouse and M+S have some lovely ones just in. My waist is small but my bum is mahoosive, so if I even it all up by hiding the contrast I think my bum looks smaller. Jumper dress + leggings + heeled boots = sorted :)

snoozathon · 15/09/2010 07:49

One more thing - heels heels heels! Grin

Woman at M and S Shock

How very dare you!

Tis cutting edge this season.

However, at 5 ft 10 I will admit to not being well versed in this subject.

Allora · 15/09/2010 08:42

Straight legs is what I wear but they're always too long and so borin...

So what shoes are you wearing with tea dresses again? Ballet pumps? Isn't that tres over??
