Where can I get wider fitting shoes for a toddler when Startrite and Clarks don't fit?

My 19 month old DD has small but wide feet. She measures a 4H but when we tried that size they are still too tight. Startrite and Clarks have just said sorry can't help but obviously DD needs something to wear! Sad

Any brands/shops/websites recommended?

is the problem with width or the instep height?

my boys are an H fitting but clarkes never fit as their instep is too high.

Ecco and Ricosta have both worked well for us. They don't come in fittings but are a better shape. I had to go to an independent shop that specialises in european makes.

My 20 month old DD is a 4H. We get her shoes from a local independent shop that stocks Pedipeds and iWalk shoes - both are really good for wide feet and high insteps so look out for somewhere near you that stocks these, or you can get them online.

Thank you - she has a high instep. Clarks have their new shoes in our local shop today and we have found one style that fit her although we have had to go up 1/2 a size. I had visions of her wearing wellies all winter Sad I will look into the brands you recommend though for future reference.

We go to an independent shoe shop in Southampton, as DD2 wears insoles that make her feet wider and 'deeper' and she also needs ankle support. They stock a far wider range of shoes and boots than anywhere else.

They are far more knowledgeable about fitting than Clarks.

Hi, my daughter is a 4.5H. Got shoes from Clarks the first time but for her second pair they had no nice ones that went up to an H (such a small selection compared with their "normal" range! We went to an independent shop where they really knew their stuff, and ended up with shoes from Primigi (an Italian brand I think). Quite pricey but very good quality.

DirtyMartini · 18/09/2010 23:01

Same problem here but with a boy. We have had Primigi, also Noel. Have heard good things about Ricosta and Geox too.

We had trouble finding wellies to fit when DS was 2; his little legs were so fat (in a nice munchable way Grin) as well as having wide feet. He has shot up now though and it's much easier.

kickers shoes have quite a wide fit.

Easywriter · 18/09/2010 23:15

Ecco, Ricosta, Primiggi or if you're feeling flush then Angulus (gorgeous shoes)

Kickers are great for a high instep - DS always had the boot every winter and was very happy in them - at one point could never get DS in wellies as his instep was so high they were really tight. Now his foot has really slimmed down but still has high instep so that's almost harder!
