I am going to M&S to buy a swimming costume. Any recommendations or costumes to avid please?

I have this one and it's really flattering. If you look online at their other swimwear they have lots that would work for you.

pinkbasket · 14/09/2010 11:53

Thank you. I went in and they have no swimwear at all and I also needed to get a sports bra but one was too tight and I couldn't even get the other one on. Rather than offering to help me the assistant said "they come up small."

That costume looks really nice. Can you advise me on the size I would need? My bra size is 36G and if I was buying a top I would get 14-16 trousers would probably be a 16 too.

I would go for 16 then. I'm usually 12 on top and 14 below but 14 was fine for the cossie.

Good luck!

Thank you, I am going to order it now. What colour do you have?

blue -- tis lovely in a very forties retro way!

pinkbasket · 14/09/2010 15:51

I was thinking blue too as a change. I am going to see if I can try it on when I go shopping at the weekend and if they haven't got any I will order on line. Thanks so much for the recommendations :).

Lots more online than instore.
I have the blue spot tankini.Long enough to cover the tummy and not ride up.

moragbellingham · 14/09/2010 16:11

There's only size 8 in stock.
My local store has removed all the swimwear - I have been looking forever.

KristinaM · 14/09/2010 17:06

if you are a G cup you need a underwired swimsuit

it should look like a bra inside the swimsuit, with a proper back fastening and adjustable straps

moragbellingham · 14/09/2010 17:14

darker and looks better than this in real life!

However......If you were going to spend £35 at M&S why not go to Figleaves as KrisinaM says and get a cup sized one from Panache/Freya etc?
Free returns and codes all over mumsnet.

sorry to put the dampners on...

my last M&S costume lasted weekly swimming & 2 pregnancies (well the first few months anyway)!!!

I finally had to replace it and since easter I have had three costumes. The stitching came away on one and all of them had issues with dye running/fabric going patchy.

Each time they said it was the way I washed them but I always use fairy and no conditioner as I know that can rot fabric! And the last costume was washed the same way and lasted 2 years+

One sales assistant also said it wasnt made for regular pool swimming but for "holiday" use. I provided much entertainment for the other customers that day!

My latest one has a white band and although lined it is still see through! grr

I think I will be heading online for my next costume now

pinkbasket · 14/09/2010 18:01

I'm comfused now .

I will be at Bluewater on Saturday so if anyone can recommend somewhere I could get one, that would be great. I am only planning on swimming once or twice a week but still hope it will last a bit.

I know I have to keep my knickers on when trying it on but what about my bra? If I keep it on I won't be able to see if the costume is supportive enough.

no you dont keep your bra on

happilyeverafter · 14/09/2010 20:06

My last suit I got off eBay, it was an m&s one with the labels cut out, had a stretchy bra shelf inside.

I'm 32ff and this was sufficient for my weekly swim, has lasted a year and now Lycra starting to go. Was £4!

Bugger! I've never had an M&S suit before and I wanted it for swimmming not holidaying (like a fair few others I imagine).
What a load of old sloblocks they tell you to justify the poor quality.
I do think mine is made by Panache though.

Couldn't find armbands anywhere either as they are for summer too apparently!
(Tesco 20p a pair eventually)

moragbellingham · 14/09/2010 20:56

I think halternecks are quite tiring for big norks too.
Make your neck ache after a while.

KristinaM · 14/09/2010 21:47

oh yes i find that too

should have mentioned that befroe

pinkbasket · 15/09/2010 08:02

Good point and since I have a weak neck I best not get that style. Back to the drawing board.
