Shoes that rub, put up and shut up?

Do you all just grin & bear it when your new shoes rub on the heels? I've got 2 pairs of flats that I'm dying to wear, one from Next and one from Clarks, both leather and the right size, so in theory they shouldn't rub, but they doooo!

I can't work out if I'm just a big wuss and need to keep wearing them until they're broken in, or give it up as a bad game and stick to what I know are comfy on my feet.

Do I need to stock up on compeed plasters and keep at it?

I've given up on flats for this reason. Sad because I love how they look.

Wear them around the house with wet socks which will stretch them to fit your feet.

The compeed anti blister thing is good.

fuschiagroan · 13/09/2010 18:45

Yeah you need to wear them in. They are leather so they should get more comfortable

MrsMeow · 13/09/2010 19:11

Thanks everyone, I will try the wet socks thing and get some moleskin whatsits from town (will I find those in Clarks?)

mathanxiety it's a pain isn't it? They look so comfy on everyone else!

Nope. I take them back and say they are extremely uncomfortable, show them blisters if I have them, and demand my money back.

I'm Envy in my sensible alternatives....

try rubbing a bit of wax in the area of the shoe that is rubbing. Burn a candle, get a drop of wax and rub it in. My neighbour told me this trick and it really works.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 15/09/2010 13:42

I get this with every flat pair of shoes I buy, then when they're worn in they slip off and I have to claw my toes to keep them on.

Now looking for heels for this season.

MrsMeow · 16/09/2010 12:34

Thanks everyone. I looked for some heel things in town today but couldn't find the sort I was after so will have to look again when I go to the big town by me.

justanother that's a really good idea! I think the problem is that the leather at the heel is quite hard, so when it's softened a bit it should be ok, but it won't hurt to try the wax in the mean time, thanks :)

forget the compeed - very overpriced.

I learnt years ago from my Dad who was a jogger you need something called WATERPROOF STRAPPING. It is flesh coloured very smooth surface, plastic sticky tape used to fasten bandages etc. It is very smooth & very adhesive (though it peels off easily at the end of the day). With new shoes, tape your sensitive spots up before wearing the shoes (I carry it with me in case any new spots appear during the day). The shoes rub against the waterproof strapping and your skin stay protected.

You buy it from the chemist though for some reason I find that I have to buy it from independant chemists as Boots etc tend not to stock it. It's about £1.50 a roll which will last for many pairs of shoes!

Wear until shoes have worn in.

FindingMyMojo · 16/09/2010 14:00

sorry - not flesh coloured!! well not the flesh of anyone I know anyway. It's orangy/overdonethefaketan colour

MrsMeow · 16/09/2010 14:36

Grin it might be ok for David Dickinson then!

Thanks Mojo, I will definitely look out for that, then. In fact there's a chemist by the DC school so will pop in in a minute!
