Shave off the hard skin around/over the crack with one of those paring tools (from chemists) then apply cracked heel cream then put on socks every night until feet have recovered. Thereafter, apply cream if you notice feet drying out. No more cracks.

MummyDayAndNightCare · 12/09/2010 15:10

My husband had huge cracks in his heels and they were so bad (and got worse over a period of months) that no amount of cracked heel cream etc would work.

But a £30 trip to the chiropodist had him sorted in 15 mins and he's been using the cream ever since and now has beautiful feet.

Might be worth one trip to get you back in order then regular moisturising will keep it under control.

Maryqueenofchocs · 12/09/2010 15:22

I had this at the start of the summer, GP told me to buy a cracked heel cream with a high urea content - I just gor boots ownlabel but lots out there. Use twice a day and they go.

I would also recommend the Ped Egg, its the best foot file I have ever had and was also recommended by a GP..

boots heel cream

ped egg

belgo · 12/09/2010 15:25

The ped egg is very good.

MummyDayAndNightCare · 12/09/2010 15:29

Belgo - Do you really think so?

I am wondering if I'm not using mine properly (although don't really know how you can do it incorrectly?) I think it's useless and I was so excited to get it too.

belgo · 12/09/2010 15:34

My feet are a lot better after using it, but a trip to the chiropodist is a good idea.

HowsTheSerenity · 12/09/2010 15:38

Before bed tonight:

Exfoliate your feet
Slather in cream of some sorts
Wrap feet in cling film
Put a pair of socks over the top
Go to bed

Do this twice a week and you will have lovely feet.
Just dont jump out of bed to quickly. You can will fall over.

WannabeMakeUpArtist · 12/09/2010 15:59

Another vote for the Ped Egg here!

I also use Waitrose's bottom butter for babies bums (smells delicious!)on my feet (only costs £2 - £3) and it works wonders! Literally slather on feet, pop socks on for bed and your feet are lovely in the morning and smell nice too! :)

Bunbaker · 12/09/2010 16:11

Ditto the advice you have here. I don't have a ped egg, but the Vie foot file which is the ped egg, but in a different shape. I file my feet once a week - don't do it too often or you will encourage the hard skin to grow back too quickly. I then use foot cream (currently a cheap one from Boots). I tend to shower/bath mostly just before bed, so I use the foot cream most nights.

I took advice from my MIL, who at 81 has lovely soft feet. It is because she looks after them and uses foot cream.

Believe me, it really does work.

Maryqueenofchocs · 12/09/2010 19:44

Honestly, how can you fiddle with cream and socks etc etc just before bed....I usually pass out on the sofa at 9pm and drag myself upstairs..

I do well to remove clothing let alone look at my feet..

I am in awe.

Greenshadow · 12/09/2010 19:48

Highly recomend Flexitol for cracked heels.

nannyj · 12/09/2010 19:56

I hate my ped egg. It's like a cheese grater.

thinkingaboutschools · 12/09/2010 19:57

I agree with Greenshadow - flexitol is the way to go

Maryqueenofchocs · 12/09/2010 20:17

I love my ped egg as its is like a cheese grater.Grin

CMOTdibbler · 12/09/2010 20:25

Def a trip to the chiropodist, then bottom butter and sock to maintain

FreeButtonBee · 12/09/2010 20:37

i have microplane footfile - here

A good old file once a week then slather in flexitol; it's generally a good idea to lather on a bit before bed once or twice a week as well just before bed.

Scuttlebutter · 12/09/2010 21:45

Another vote here for letting a professional restore order. Once the chiropodist has sorted you out, maintain good order with a Ped egg and L'Occitane foot cream - 'tis lush and ensures feet of fairy tale softness... well, at least feet that look respectable in a pair of sandals. I top mine up with a visit to a pro two or three times a year - that seems to keep them in order.

pointydog · 12/09/2010 21:48

I tried flexitol after it was recommended on here and found it brilliant.

bellavita · 12/09/2010 21:54

Ped Egg, lots of cream and bed socks.

mrsflux · 13/09/2010 10:21

cheers all!

does anyone else get uncomfortably hot feet though with cream and then socks on? i do so might try the cream during the day instead.

what does a chiropodist charge? roughly? i have no idea but am a bit skint.

TheBossofMe · 13/09/2010 10:30

Ped Egg, followed by Flexitol when feet still a bit damp. Flexitol rocks - foot health is very important here in Thailand, and its one of the few things I bother getting people to bring me from the UK (Marmite, pink Vaseline lip salve and Branston pickle being the other three things!)

scratchmyback · 13/09/2010 16:06

I hate my Ped Egg too - find it useless. I've got one of those things with a blade on it after watching a day use it on my best pedicure yet!!!

I agree mrsflux - my feet get too hot to use cream and socks for bed, so I do mine early evening until bedtime.

I think a chiropodist is around £25 but i havent been for a while so I may be wrong - also may depend on where you live.

apple99 · 13/09/2010 16:35

I also dislike my ped egg. Instead I use a diamancel foot file and once a week and flexitol at night, but no socks as feet get to hot.
