today ive spent an extra 15mins getting ready doing my hair and make up, i feel so much better today.

i can't figure out why i'm so lazy as to not make the effort more.

Hmm, I would say it depends on what's in store for the day. On a normal weekday, no big plans, probably 25 mins, though I would like it to be MUCH longer.

BelligerentGhoul · 11/09/2010 14:43

Work days -

Hair - about five mins to straighten it
Make up - about six minutes
Clothes - depends on whether I sorted them out the night before or not. If I did, less than five minutes. If I didn't, up to 20 minutes of petulance.

Lulumaam · 11/09/2010 14:47

for a work day or regular day i am taking the DCs to school, approx 30 minutes

wash, dry and straighten hair
full make up
outfit & accesories

at a weekend i'll loll around in the bath for up to 30 minutes too

this morning i took an extra 30 minutes to put a colour on my hair

however, i've been up , dressed out and done in 7 minutes or so when call to a birth!

Hmmm, i'm medium to high maintenance as I'm not a natural beauty by any mark. Soooo...

Weekend
Wash, dry, straighten hair/curl 45mins.
Make-up 25 mins
Outfit, accessories 10mins.

My husband hates it.

School day
I wake up 30 mins before the kids to do a basic make-up and hair is pulled back.

I feel 100% with my M-U and hair done. I feel like utter shite without it.

carriedababi · 11/09/2010 15:33

suppose what i'm wondering is, if i spend an extra say 15mins a day i look and feel alot better, so why don't i bother most of the time?

probably laziness i suppose.

VirginonRidiculous · 11/09/2010 15:57

That's why I do it. If I feel good about myself I feel like I can do anything. But if I don't have my warpaint on and I have to go outdoors I feel like I avoid eye contact. Tis because of my bad skin/pigmentation. Feels better to be covered over.

muggglewump · 11/09/2010 16:01

An hour and a half, but I do have to fit in at least two cups of tea. I hate rushing.
I get up and have tea/watch news for half an hour, shower and wash hair, then more tea and TV whilst putting on face, then dry/straighten hair and get dressed, get bits I need and leave.

I could probably do it in 45 minutes but I prefer to get up earlier.

I'm just a cleaner, but still wear make up/do hair for work or I feel and look like shit. I am not a naturally pretty person.

muggglewump · 11/09/2010 16:03

Today I'm just wearing jeans, a vest and converse, and I'm not going further than the corner shop, but I still have done my full routine. I just feel so much better for it.

purplearmadillo · 11/09/2010 16:07

I reckon I need about 45 minutes to get fully ready. This would include showering and washing hair, then drying hair, clothes and makeup.

With the DCs I often don't have time and I always feel rubbish if I haven't had a chance to at least do my hair. Am also finding I look worse and worse without make up now I am older :{

purplearmadillo · 11/09/2010 16:08

How do people actually find an hour and a half to get ready?? Do you get up at the crack of dawn?!

lemonysweet · 11/09/2010 16:10

i think for a lot of people, if you prepare yourself you feel more ready and more 'i WILL kick your asses today'

i know i do, i find my routine very relaxing and the time spend doing it makes me feel better :)

muggglewump · 11/09/2010 16:13

No, I get up at 6.15 to leave for work at 8.20. Obviously that's longer than I stated but I have DD to nag help too.

I'm really not a morning person, but feel far better having had time to wake up and watch some news without rushing and have a bit of time to chat to DD whilst she's eating breakfast, than I do getting up much later and leaving harassed.

Takver · 11/09/2010 16:14

Get dressed & tidy hair - say 2 minutes
Make & drink tea - 15 minutes (like to sit over the first cup)
Ditto breakfast - 10 minutes
Wash face & clean teeth - say another 2 minutes

Pre dd, in my office job days I generally left the house 20-30 mins after getting up on a work day (driven out of bed by Thought for the day, out the house by about 20/25 past 8).

These days we get up 7.20 ish, leave the house 8.40 ish, but a lot of other things happen in between Grin

muggglewump · 11/09/2010 16:15

I also set my alarm so I can press snooze three times, so I am prepared for getting out of bed too.

Just13moreyearstogo · 11/09/2010 16:21

Never more than 15mins. Don't have to get dressed up and am not particularly into putting on a face or having a fancy hairstyle. What they see is what they get. I look OK for my age but would be more likely to be the before rather than the after picture on a makeover Grin

Clary · 11/09/2010 16:28

OOh not very long.

Bath and dress, 15 mins. Make up and brush hair - 5 mins.
Total 20 mins.

Would look a lot better if I could squeeze in 10 mins to dry my hair properly now and then Wink

Are we not counting bath or shower? Or do most of you not bother with that in the am?

EleFunTess · 11/09/2010 16:30

Work days - 30-45 mins, including doing hair and make-up.

Weekend when haven't got major plans - 15 mins. Shower, dress, tie hair back, might put a touch of bronzer and mascara on if I can be arsed.

coatgate · 11/09/2010 16:33

Ready for what? I am a total slattern and don't do anything at all some days. I get out of bed, put on clothes lying on floor, the go out to sort out the animals. They don't care what I look like. I work from home so when DD has gone to school I go to my desk and sometimes forget to do anything else until much, much later. Agree, I feel better if I have put a bit of slap on, but don't feel it is essential.

Shodan · 11/09/2010 16:46

Ummmm.....

get out of bed, brush hair and put into ponytail. approx. one minute.

Put on clothes. 2 minutes.

Brush teeth. 2 minutes.

So that's ....er.... five minutes.

I strongly suspect, therefore, that I am Low Maintenance.

However, I take hour-long baths every night, which is when I wash hair, do shavy stuff etc.

If I feel like putting on make-up to go out in the day (sometimes at weekends) it takes no more than 10 mins, and that's dawdling a bit.

laloony · 11/09/2010 16:53

i can be showered, hair washed, straightened, dressed and out the door in 15 minutes.

i am VVVVV low maintenance, always have been.

today im in joggers, but have washed my face and cleaned my teeth. all of 2 minutes.

feel fine with this level of self neglect.tbh

Suda · 11/09/2010 17:10

ROFL about being before rather than after pic JUST13.

Reminds me of when me and DD were given a Mothers day present from my new DP (now DH} of a voucher for a local beauty salon (I know youre probably thinking - I did - whats he trying to say here Confused but my DD thought it was hysterical and wasnt in the least offended ).

It was actually really thoughtful of him - when I got past my initial offended reaction (mainly due to DD and DH hysterically laughing at my 'neuroticness' - sorry pedants). He and my DD even suggested we should ring ahead to salon and cancel all staff leave - "as they had a big job coming in" - so I had to see funny side eventually.

The reason he'd done it was I once mentioned would love to have a girlie day with DD - have manicures etc. for a change as she helped in my cleaning business at the time - so a couple of scrubbers really - always at mucky end / hands in bleach etc. So it was really thoughtful bless him.

But anyway - sorry - in answer to OP I would say about half an hour if not washing hair - about an hour if washing hair.
I also lately have started to get ready before I start cleaning up /pegging out washing etc. as have you ever noticed men never whine about 'always waiting for you /you take ages getting ready' blah blah - when you are ironing their shirt or doing washing up but as soon as you start to get yourself ready they start pacing !

Maryqueenofchocs · 11/09/2010 17:40

It all depends whether I have little devil children around me:

Day with children goes like so: DS playing in shower (whilst I am in it), DD opening every drawer in bedroom whilst I am in shower, DD pulling clothes off bed and crumping on floor, DS squeezing toothpaste onto bath, DD pretending to dress up in said crumped clothes, DS playing superman on bed and DD emptying makeup down the loo, her favourite obsession - on these mornings I rarely take more than 1 minute 30 seconds.

If I have a morning left in peace I can take far far far far faaaaaaaaaaaaaar longer.
