What was that loopy hair thing called? (

I think, back in the late 80's it was. It was this sort of rigid loop thing that you stuck in your hair and threaded a ponytail through it, and then you sort of pulled your ponytail in on itself?

Was about the same time that snoods were popular for those that remember!

Was doing dd1's hair this morning and wondering if they still did them - she's got lovely long hair and was thinking that style might look nice for school?

what were the accessories called tht were a length of material with a wire in it, and a slit in the middle.

You fed your hair through the slit, pulled it almost to the end of your hair and then rolled your hair up into a bun, using the bendy wire to keep it in place.

Oooh handy thread - I want to get one for dd1

I have one of those too annoyingorange!

I got a smaller plastic one like this for DD's hair as my velvety one was too huge for her hair. The small one kept her hair up for ballet.

Never saw the Hairogami before, but looks like you need straight hair, no layers, down to your ass!!

I bought a bun doughnut thingy the other day, only to discover that my hair is too thin to cover it all. The length isn't the problem,, I just can't spread my hair out to cover the whole doughnutty thing.

AnnoyingOrange · 07/09/2010 22:35

that is indeed the thingy I was thinking of, but the name hairami doesn't ring a bell.

I quite like 'bun donut thingy' though Smile

Went into Claires today and they have loads of hair things you never knew you needed. Including the hairigami! And the loopy thing. And these little hair 'pillows' that puff your hair out!

Well my loopy thing arrived from Hong Kong Grin It's really good! There's a little one for dd's hair (she's 4) and a big one for grown ups. Hairdo looks lovely.

PonyHeart - hilarious! Am so doing it for work...

Whoamireally · 20/09/2010 11:00

DD got several comments from some of the other 'retro' mums about how nice her hair looked Grin

She's also growing her fringe out and it's really good for looping her fringe out of the way of her face....

I can't understand the Hongkongese (sorry if I've offended anyone of hong kong origin by not knowing what variant of the Chinese language is spoken there) on the instructions but there is a really nice up do, basically instead of pulling the ponytail down on itself you do it up on itself so it looks a bit chignony
