Joules - really skinny models and strange farmer bod

Anyone else get their Joules "Catazine" today?

I usually love their stuff, but the models this time were teeny tiny skinny - I assume Joules stuff to be worn by yummy mummy types - what about a few models with curves?

And also on one of the shots, there's this gorgeous model in a tweed mini skirt standing next to this farmer type person with five brooms. I hope they actually hired him from an agency and paid him a fortune, rather than collaring some poor farm worker, and saying "oi, you look rustic! come and give our photo a bit of country atmosphere with your slurry covered trousers, multiple brooms and amusing hat". I hesitate to say exploitative, but honestly. Why the need to rope in some little old man to give some country side charm to your catalogue..sorry catazine...just looked so FAKE!! FAKE FAKE FAKE!!

Rant over. I know it's fashion and just a pretend shot, but if someone said to our farm employees, "come and stand next to this tall skinny posh bird wearing a tweed mini skirt", they'd make comments about her needing a decent meal of meat and two veg fnar fnar or ask how much they were going to pay them. I hope he did. I hope he's really a character model or something....

And inside there's a long fluffy article about how Joules clothing makes you glad to live in the British countryside or some such twaddle....

I mean I like the clothes (some of them, rather than the teeny tiny mini skirts and tweed waistcoats so you look like Toad of Toad Hall) but they do drivel on don't they?

or is it just me?!?

I take it you've never seen the boden catalogue...

Heartsease · 06/09/2010 17:55

At least a catalogue is absurd in two dimensions. The Joules shop in my town has locked a shabby chic bicycle to a nearby lampost, with polka dot bunting adorning its wicker basket. It looks ridiculous and blocks the pavement.

I love the Joules catazine - it usually gives me a good laugh!

happilyeverafter · 06/09/2010 19:45

I ranted about this recently. The shot of the little girl holding the six tiered cake is absurd. I don't mind boden catalogues but I may unsubscribe from Joules as it was farcical.

The women are all odd looking and the 'scenes' just look like they are trying too hard.

Toad of Toad Hall

haha yes

Some of it is quite nice, but a lot of it is ruined by logos and bizarre outsized brass buttons and nonsensical crests

mippy · 08/09/2010 10:56

I hated the article about how utterly brilliant their clothing was by some style journo. I can decide for myself, y'know?

Half their stuff is nice, the other half too logo-ey or countrified for me. I don't do logos unless they are of bands I like.

iwilldothis · 08/09/2010 13:42

How about these for a laugh?!?

GentleOtter · 08/09/2010 13:53

Anyone seen in or around our farm wearing those wellies, will be fed to the bull.

I detest the use of certain 'rustic' stereotypes like this. We farm types may dress like we are going to gather potatoes because we usually are.
Sorry but the rural/ urban line is drawn firmly at proper wellies/ poncetastic wellies.
And try rounding up sheep wearing a tweed mini skirt.

I received my first "catazine" (ridiculous name) this week. I ordered it after seeing a neighbour in a lovely Joules skirt, but I hate the way that most of the clothes have logos on. I won't pay to advertise a shop. I much prefer Boden. Joules just seems like a Boden wannabe.

iwilldothis · 08/09/2010 21:17

agree about the logos...lovely hoodie spoiled by all the writing on the back :(
