but where to start?

atm i use olay foaming facial wash, if i have worn makeup.
if i haven't worn any make up, i just just warm water

i do have some no 7 protect and perfect, but i always forget to use it.

suppose im not really into a routine with things as such.

I started using anti-aging creams at the same age (called ROC Retin-Ox multicorrexion now).
I had lovely skin in my thirties but don't know if it was genetics etc. or the use of these sorts of cream.
And it was BC!

I'd start with a light moisturiser every morning with a high SPF.
And then the skincare product addiction can develop from thereWink

ValiumSingleton · 06/09/2010 09:48

you can use a day moisturiser with an spf15.. that is the number one thing you can do that doesn't cost a fortune.

lidl do a lovely night cream for about £2

I exfoliate occasionally too, never sun bathe, and do moisturise a lot but I never use expensive products because I can't afford them. I could be kidding myself, but I don't think my skin looks older than friends who have used expensive products. I've never smoked though.

carriedababi · 08/09/2010 16:46

thanks for the advice, im going to start taking care of it now

carrie - using an SPF every day is the single best thing you can do to slow down skin ageing. doesnt need to be expensive.

hocuspontas · 08/09/2010 17:01

I don't wear make-up so I have just used cold water and simple or organic soap on my face for about the last 25 years. People say I look mid-forties (I'm mid-fifties) so I don't intend to start mucking about with my routine now! (Or maybe they're just being kind. Eeek! Maybe I look mid-sixties!)

OP - don't get into a panic. I'm convinced the more chemicals you put on your face, the more damage it does.

Decorhate · 08/09/2010 17:49

The other important thing is to Not Smoke. I notice more & more that the women in their 40s who have the most lines & wrinkles are the ones that smoke or used to...

superv1xen · 08/09/2010 18:17

yeah i gave up smoking a year ago (when i was 29) and noticed my skin looking better within weeks.

damn i miss it tho..... Wink

carriedababi · 08/09/2010 18:23

luckily i have never smoked

OP if you dont start injecting your face with goat embryo extract NOW you might actually start to look your real age. duck semen is also effective in getting that prepubscent glow back.

duckyfuzz · 08/09/2010 19:57

I started using stuff at about that age, I am now 40 and most people think I'm younger, I think skin type helps though, mine is ooily, but sis has v dry skin and is more wrinkly (and younger!)

Bunbaker · 08/09/2010 22:19

What, not even any moisturiser?

I have used moisturiser since I was a teenager and at nearly 52 I can pass for 10 years younger. I have never smoked and always use a moisturiser with an SPF of 15.

Two work colleagues who celebrated their 50th birthdays this year both look (and sound) years older than me because they smoke. (cats bums for mouths).

NoahAndTheWhale · 08/09/2010 22:22

I am 35 (today :)) and have never done moisturiser. Have never smoked and rarely wear makeup so am hoping it will balance out

WhatsWrongWithYou · 08/09/2010 22:25

I agree with Hocuspontas - never been able to follow a 'regime' as my skin reacts to so many things.

Until recently I've used nothing but aqueous cream for cleansing and moisturising. I'm 47 and I often get complimented on my skin.

Have just started the Oil Cleansing Method at night, to try and get rid of the tiny nose blackheads.

Bunbaker · 08/09/2010 22:25

It probably depends on your skin type. Mine is too dry not to wear moisturiser.

Meglet · 08/09/2010 22:26

Go and see if you can get any free samples at the beauty counters.

I feel very vain now, I've always moisturised Blush. Even vaseline is better than nothing IME.

llareggub · 08/09/2010 22:28

I rarely use anything at all. Occasionally if my skin feels a bit tight I slap a bit of cheap cream on it. I stay out of the sun, wear sunglasses to stop my eyes wrinkling and rarely wear make-up. I'm in my mid-30s and I think my skin looks pretty good.

BelleDameSansMerci · 08/09/2010 22:33

I think it does depend on your skin type as Bunbaker says. I am 45 (nearly) and have quite good skin (bit knackered at the moment so it's not looking as good as it could) but it's quite oily. I don't use any moisturiser regularly although I buy loads - I'm a believer in all their claims of rejuvenation! I find most of them give me spots so I then give them to my cleaning lady Blush

If you have oily skin I'd recommend Lancome or Clinique.

Tootiredforgodtyping · 09/09/2010 12:36

I've moisturised since i was 13. I use dermologica now but have used all kinds of things in the past

bottersnike · 09/09/2010 12:44

Am really heartened by the number of women who share my skincare regime, i.e. soap, water, SPF moisturiser. Yay!

anapaula31 · 10/09/2010 15:22

I always have light treatments and a sun block called invisible zinc, and nothing else, my skin looks really good..people usually say that I'm 25 and I'm 31 Smile

Lio · 10/09/2010 15:26

carriedababi, are you sure you need to start using anything like that? Why do you think you do? I'm now 39 and still don't use anything and I think I look fine. Never say never, but at the moment my cynicism for the beauty industry is stronger than my desire to look different from how I look without using anything like you mention.
