Has anyone "had their colours done"?

in Scotland?
Who did you go to, please? Was it very expensive? Worth the money?
Has it changed the way you buy clothes?

I really fancy doing it, tend to always wear the same colours and really not sure if they're the most flattering ones. Actually, I'd just like to be completely Gok'd, but this is the nearest I'll get!

Not in Scotland, but I went to House of Colour on the recommendation of a friend. I am bereft of any S&B - so it was interesting. I am now much pickier about colours to buy and my wardrobe is slowly changing - for the better according to my mother & husband!
I also need to be Gok'd, but this was a step in the right direction, combined with reading this board lots! I would love to go back and do a shopping day with the cosulatnt - maybe next year. I would say that it was worthwhile for a day of 'me time' and some timely advice on the fact that my whole wardrobe is the wrong colour!

Not in Scotland but had it done. Not cheap but was a present. Yes, found out I'm a winter so should wear jewel colours (used to wear browns, greens and oranges before which were totally wrong). So has changed the way I buy clothes as do follow my colours now and have had positive comments about the colours I now wear. Wouldn't we all like to be Gok'd?!

Bunbaker · 05/09/2010 20:24

Yes, but not in Scotland. It was one of the best things I have ever done. It makes clothes buying so easy as I walk past rails full of colours that I know won't suit me. I find autumn one of the worst times of year for clothes buying as all those browns/oranges/beiges just don't suit me at all and the shops are full of them. I am winter BTW.

It was a lovely self indulgent day and I learnt a lot. I still have the wallet with the colour scores in, but find that I don't need to refer to it these days as I know what colours suit me.

One of the best pieces of advice was that if people notice what you are wearing then you are wearing the wrong outfit. They should notice you as a complete person, not your clothes.

I just need Gok to style me now!

dexter73 · 05/09/2010 20:49

I don't get the comment about people noticing what you are wearing then you are wearing the wrong outfit. I often think someone is wearing a nice dress, skirt shirt etc. so why is that wrong?

Also not in Scotland but i too had it done with House of Colour and it has made clothes shopping much easier and even I can now 'see' which colours suit me.

Interestingly though, the year before I had a session with the personal shopper at John Lewis and when I looked back at the clothes that she had suggested for me, all but one of them were 'correct' colour wise, according to my new clolour card. And John Lewis personal shopper is free Smile

RipMacWinkle · 05/09/2010 21:06

Yes me - on both counts.

I went see a House of Colour lady in Glasgow.

Agree with everyone else. Worth it for me. I'm slowly changing the way I buy but have saved a fortune since I had it done walking past all of the colours which I know don't suit me. And i used to wear a lot of black and now I just don't. It was great to have it confirmed that it really didn't suit me. I now look at old photos of myself and can see how pale and washed out I look ALL the time.

I was a Spring - warm and clear. Hoping to go back for the Style part at some point, even just for the "me time".

HuckingFell · 05/09/2010 21:08

I am in Scotland, almost sorry to ruin the spartacus moment. I had min done by a woman in cramond in edinburgh, she was ok but the swatches were brill. she was cmb but i have heard house of colour are more fun. Mine was a bit um dry.

HuckingFell · 05/09/2010 21:09

i am a deep winter btw.

mmmperuna · 05/09/2010 21:11

Theres a roughish guide here

You may be able to work it out for yourself - although there are people on here who have previously said its not as straightforward as that.

RipMacWinkle · 05/09/2010 21:19

HuckingFell - you are so lucky!!!

There were 4 of us there the day I went and only one truly suited black. You could see it as soon as the consultant lady used the scarves - on every one else it was draining

swings and roundabouts - i find it very difficult to find good summery clothes as pastels are a no go area! can't wear camel either and it is lovely.

purplepeony · 05/09/2010 23:15

I did years back. Colour me Beautiful. It was okay but I think the whole process has moved on since then. I was classed as a light spring but the person who did it said I was in between 2 types. Hmmmm.

What it did do though was stop me wearing dark colours near my face, and buy shades that looked good on me rather than colours I tend to like but don't suit me IYSWIM!

I have never had mine done however looking at link I would say I am Spring, bright and fresh.

Looking at the colour swatch pretty much sums up my wardrobe the odd piece that isn't in my 'palette' is stuff that makes me look hideous in photos. Which being honest means it doesn't suit me.

I don't suit black either although I tend to offset it with a bright necklace/scarf/top.

How much is it to have colours done?

AllBuggiedOut · 05/09/2010 23:40

Have also been "done" by House of Colour, not in Scotland. Was completely traumatised and still want not to be an autumn but have come to realise that it's in the same way that I want to be 5ft 8in with a washboard stomach Grin. It's really taught me to embrace what I have and make the most of it, and how to avoid things that accentuate my worst features. Definitely have it done if you can! It was £95, btw. Was with the consultant for something like 2 1/2 hours.

said · 05/09/2010 23:46

I can't really relate to any of the seasons on that link. Is there anyone prepared to say what there actual colouring is and what season this corresponds with?

AllBuggiedOut · 05/09/2010 23:59

I have pale skin with ruddy cheeks, and mousy brown hair. My eyes are fairly non-descript green/grey/blue. The consultant talked about the "stripe" of red across my face which was much less pronounced when I wore the warm autumn colours. I'd gone to the session in a breton white and navy top, and when I put it back on after seeing myself in the "right" colours I could see was a mistake! Any help?

said · 06/09/2010 00:25

That's useful, thanks. I'd assume I was Autumn but I don't quite fit your description

purplepeony · 06/09/2010 07:34

I bought the book Colour Me Confident which is good.

It shows youhow to work out your own colours and lots of us fall into what they call "soft"- which is evidently Kylie colouring- pale-ish skin, mousey-ish hair ( natural colour) and pale eyes.

Evidently a good tip is to see if you suit white or cream best against the skin and this gives you your cool or warm palette.

Dorothyredboots · 06/09/2010 09:31

I went with HOC and am a convert. I am a Blue Spring and my colouring is as follows:
Very pale skin but with a yellow, rather than blue undertone. Hair is naturally light mousey and again warm undertones rather than cool. I have light eyebrows which are not a strong feature in comparison to my eye colour, and not a big contrast to my skin colour. I have a few very pale freckles. I have the sort of skin which is the most likely candidate for skin cancer if you know what I mean. I do not tan dark at all, takes a long time to get pale golden! I have golden highlights put in hair which my consultant says was right. My eyes are a light, bright blue (people do comment on them so they are obviously quite striking). I have no big contrast in my colouring and my overall look is pale and quite delicate.
I look poorly in burgundy, forest green, fuschia pink, black, dark grey, dark navy, white etc etc - anything that is dark or cool or icy is a no no. I can't do anything to strong IYSWIM .Dark colours overwhelm me and I need bright, light, vivid colours and lots of them - I do not wear many neutral colours now.
I hope this helps.

RipMacWinkle · 06/09/2010 10:17

I am scarily, scarily similar to Dorothy except she seems a lot more sorted than me Grin I'm still converting...
