What to wear around the house

I need some decent stuff to wear round the house after work or on days when I'm studying at home.

I want something nice enough that I'm not embarrassed to answer the door or see my lodgers, but something still comfortable.

At the moment I'm wearing old jeans and plain tees. I'm too fat for leggings.

Toast and such places are completely out of my price range. Any suggestions?

Kaftans and spangles.

One day I shall float around the house in a kaftan but I feel a bit young for one (early 20s).

Really too fat for leggings? With a looooong top?

Sweater dresses.

here

I have loads of their roll top trousers and their summer dresses (basically a modal nightdress) bought in the sale at £40. They are fantastic quality.

Then you just need one of their 7 way wraps (basically a waterfall cardigan) for comfiness.

M&S also do modal stuff - they have a lovely blue cardigan:

here for £22.50

Then some Celtic Sheepskin shortie boots and you will be snug as a bug in a rug Grin
I too work from home a lot.

TrickyWoo - really too fat for leggings - all my weight is on my lower half.

Lauriefairycake - that stuff is lovely. Even the sale prices are a bit much though.

I really like the M&S cardi and will have a look in Westfield this week.

much cheaper modal trousers They might not be as good as the meandem ones but they will be a lot more flattering than leggings.

I'm a bit obsessed with modal - it's just so much softer than cotton and doesn't dig in when you're mumsnetting working at the kitchen table. It also keeps its shape well and doesn't shrink like other jersey material.

What a proper lady would wear is this Grin

I had some White Company roll top jersey trousers that were very comfy/looked nice. I wore them lots after having DD but as I lost weight they no longer fit so they went on ebay.

I now am a little obsessed with my new Nike harem trousers. They are a very thin stretch cotton mix also with a roll top and not visibly sporty. I have been wearing them loads since I got them, team them with a tight gap vest and flipflops round the house then add cardi/belt if need to pop out.

The well fitting/flattering comfy trouser is the key for stylish loungewear imo then have a few ribbed vests and a flowing cardi or two.

Grin at chocolatefroggie's suggestion. The elderly lady a few doors down is rather fond of housecoats. As well as very lacy net curtains and hanging baskets.

happilyeverafter - I loooove harem pants. They would probably look pants on me however. It may be worth a try Hmm.

I'll definitely pop to Gap for some nice vest tops - I haven't replaced mine since gaining 3 stone Blush.

I second the White Company roll tops. Quite flared.
Sweaty Betty yoga roll tops (warrior pants) even better (esp in sale at £25 twice a year). These are my standard everyday in the house wear, don't mind seeing the postie, type things.
