verdicts please...

veering towards parka as I have no jacket/coat for casual walks etc except a Berghaus Gortex waterproof. My other coats are cotton velvet or wool.

If you have the parka is there horrid top stitching on the olive colour? It is also very £££ for a parka though have 15% code.

If you have the raincoat do you have the black and if so, what is the piping like? Must say I am not keen on the lilac piping.

Thanks!

p.s. is the parka fairly neat and fitted, or is it chunky?
I am quite petite and can't be swamped by chunky clothes or I just disappear.

Purple ... there is contrast stitching in a pale colour and yes, it would be much better without it. It's a fitted shape but not fitted IYKWIM - so room for a chunky jumper underneath. I still don't know whether to hold onto it, esp having seen a Barbour which was linked to on the Coats thread. It's more than twice the price (and for me, this year, sadly unafforadable) but it looks so warm and cosy and, IMHO, would be a much better coat than the Boden parka. here it is and then there's this but no hood. Food for thought.

Earlybird · 05/09/2010 15:23

Those Barbour coats are lovely. But, I don't see a price anywhere. Presumably that means they are £££ ? If so, could you justify based on the theory that (presumably) they are higher quality and will last longer?

CwtchyBlueMama · 05/09/2010 15:25

I have the rainyday mac & its really comfy to wear.

Its quite warm & is slightly fitted so its a bit more flattering from the back. The hood seems a better shape than last yrs mac too.

I am only 5'2" myself & i dont feel swamped in mine.

VictoriousSponge · 05/09/2010 16:02

i htink the parka looks DULL

Ronaldinhio · 05/09/2010 16:04

where are the coats from the op???

Millie1 · 05/09/2010 16:46

Purple ... the Parka's going back. Quality just doesn't justify the price tag.

purplepeony · 05/09/2010 18:29

Ronaldiniho- the clue is in the question!

The Barbours are £200- see online shop on that web link.
Both look v nice but would need to see in flesh not mail order.

sorry, customary to link/???

thought boden was beyond dull this time

veryconfusedandupset · 05/09/2010 19:57

I am going to have a new zip put in my second best Barbour this year, it is 25 years old and I have worn it every winter since I got it - it cost about £90 then so new ones being £200 isn't so bad. Barbours last forever.

mangoandlime · 05/09/2010 20:02

Yep, have just today bought the most beautiful Barbour , a quilted international in a lovely deep purple. It was £150 but beautifully made and warm but not Michelin man like at all. Sent back the boden carnaby and very unmoved by the look of the parka.

purplepeony · 05/09/2010 20:21

what's the style name of your Barbour Mango?

OP posts:
Millie1 · 05/09/2010 20:54

Purple ... Boden parka also has patches on elbows which cheapen it. Don't get it! Grin

mangoandlime · 05/09/2010 20:56

I thnk it is the quilted International PP.

mangoandlime · 05/09/2010 21:00

Millie- I won't- you have convinced me.

Belle03 · 10/09/2010 17:44

Don't buy the parka, the olive one arrived today & is going straight back, an absolute rip off, even with discount. It doesn't feel very warm, even with the furry lining & the sleeves are really thin, can't believe some of the reviewers on the site reckoned it was great. Rant over! Grin

WilfShelf · 10/09/2010 17:47

Ahem, you'll all be needing this thread then

Grin
purplepeony · 10/09/2010 21:08

Agreed- haven't ordered and can't believe it is so £££. Barbours are around for £199 ish.

OP posts:
Millie1 · 10/09/2010 21:22

Hi Purple ... have you decided what to order? I'm lusting after the Cameron Barbour [drool emotion]!

Belle03 · 11/09/2010 18:06

Thanks wilf will have a read!

purplepeony · 11/09/2010 18:19

Hi Millie1- no. I need to see them in the flesh. I def want something that doesn't look like a Barbour IYSWIM!

OP posts:
Clary · 11/09/2010 18:24

I have last year's version of the rainyday mac and i do so love it.

Looking forward to wearing it again!

I agree the parka is £££££ - I wonder why as it looks ordinary IYSWIM.

Fayrazzled · 11/09/2010 18:31

I have the Barbour Cameron and it's fab. Kept me very warm on the school run last year. I've also got the Boden Rainy Day mac in aubergine and have had several compliments on it. It's almost navy rather than a purple and the contrasting trim is nice. The fleecy lining is very cosy but it's not as heavy duty as the Barbour.

purplepeony · 11/09/2010 20:18

If the Boden purple mac didn't have the green trim I'd go for it but green is not me.

will look at the Cameron.
