bags under my eyes

I have quite large bags under my eyes. I have tried a few creams but to no avail and am after some help.

I have read that vitamin K helps, especially in conjunction with vitamin A... any creams you know of that I could try.

I have a very limited budget and don't drink anything apart from peppermint tea, ginger tea, and water. I get around 6 hours of sleep a night, sometimes 7 and am generally fit and healthy.

teahouse, I have bags/dark circles under my eyes too. Unfortunately, they're hereditary so there's not a great deal I can do about them. I find that if I get loads of sleep they aren't as noticable, but with a three-month-old baby there's not much chance of me getting anywhere near that right now. I'm interested to hear what others have to say on the subject as I look knackered most of the time (even when I'm not, grrr).

taking the time to massage creams properly into the eye area will help more than just popping them on, iyswim. Try using finger tip pressures every cm or so around the socket of the eye. Hold the pressure for 3 seconds before releasing. By doing so, you will be causing an increase in blood flow to the area and it will help with the skin colour and tone.

Also, make sure you are using a gel or oil rather than a heavy cream. Too much product can overload the sensitive skin in this area and cause it to look heavier than it really is.

??

purplepeony · 05/09/2010 08:36

sadly only surgery will help. Bags are casued by fat deposits under the skin "popping through" so unless yours are very much more obvious after no sleep, there's not a lot creams will do.

Your best bet is a cream which tightens the skin temporarily, but really, it's the knife...sorry.

Suzy1975 · 05/09/2010 09:13

I think purplepeony is right. You can now get fillers that help reduce the appearance of bags and I'd like to hear from anyone who's had this done. The results are supposed to be very good.

I also agree about the eye creams. They can make your bags worse!

bigsarahj · 05/09/2010 10:21

I've had some limited success on mine with a caffeine-based roll on, I think it's by L'oreal. In the end, I suspect any cosmetic improvement is short-lived, however. I opt for YSL Touche Eclat to try to make them seem less dark.

topsi · 05/09/2010 14:30

Fillers won't help with bags they will just exagerate the problem, if you have dark hollows under your eyes then yes a good idea.

ppeatfruit · 05/09/2010 14:35

Agree with tulpe, another thing you can do is look at the amount of dairy, fatty meat in yr. diet ;that's where the bags come from!!

teahouse · 05/09/2010 14:52

I'm lactose intolerant so don't have much diary and eat mostly veggie food.
I also weight around 9st (and am 5'4") so am not overweight - I don't get where the bags come from.

No way am I going under the knife - guess I'll just have to live with it... getting older suck ;o(

No teahouse yr right about the knife, tulpe is describing a type of acupressure which is interesting and is helpful for blocked sinuses etc. Also try googling earth clinic for other ideas.

sweetheart · 05/09/2010 18:53

I have a similar problem and have tried numerous eye creams. The one I have found the best so far is this one It's the only cream I've ever brought more than once

Madascheese · 06/09/2010 12:00

Oh I use that as well sweetheart.

I also found Molton Brown's eye cream good but it's much more £££££

Benefit do a good lift/concealer thingy benefit

ppeatfruit · 06/09/2010 16:44

teahouse do you eat those vegan marg's? 'cos they ALL contain palm oil which may be the culprit, I can't eat it, it gives me bags under my eyes [I put olive oil on my toast)

purplepeony · 06/09/2010 17:27

If you google eye bag removal there are lots of diarams etc of how they are cuased. Not by food but by age and skin condition. the fat under the eye sockets pops though. Not connected to how much fat you eat at all.

ppeatfruit · 07/09/2010 12:20

Purple where does the fat come from then? How come if i eat butter the next day my eye bags are larger and vice versa (i'm not saying there isn't a genetic element as well).

morelaundry · 07/09/2010 13:16

OK . . . yes, fillers can help with eye bags. Just had my second round of fillers, actually. I wouldn't describe it as a pleasant or inexpensive experience but the results are looking good, although five days in I still have some swelling and tenderness and I really hope I don't have to get it repeated for at least a year.

Why do fillers help? Because eye bags aren't just bags of fat you have magically gained by eating butter (as someone suggested!) They are actually showing in part because as you age you lose volume in your cheeks, getting a more hollow-faced look. The fillers go BELOW the bags, in the upper cheek area, so no, they don't exaggerate the problem. In fact they hide it.

However considering the expense and the freak-out factor of having a needle in your face, I would also suggest facial exercises as an alternative because I think I have had some success with them myself. These are the ones I do

Other than that, watch your salt intake and cut down on refined sugars and starches, which are thought to have an inflammatory effect on the entire body.

cheekychopsmum · 07/09/2010 15:59

morelaundry - What type of filler nd what is the price like?

I have dark semi circle under my eyes, but what bothers me more (cos I was born with the dark ring and am used to it) is that it is becoming sunk in. Could filler sort that out?

OrmRenewed · 07/09/2010 16:02

I have dreadful rings under my eyes. And when I'm under the weather or stressed they get baggy too. They got materially worse when I lost a lot of weight a few years ago.

It's genetic in my case. Mum has them and already DD has shadows under her eyes Sad.
