Key accessible trends for A/W

runoutofnameideas · 02/09/2010 21:58

Apologies if this has been covered already on another thread but what are the main accessible trends for this season?

I mean stuff that a 30 something mum can access without looking a prat and spending a fortune on new stuff. Little touches. So it might be a particular type of scarf, an on-trend colour or the like?

Help you fashionistas please!

Camel is a big colour for A/W.

runoutofnameideas · 03/09/2010 18:11

Anything else please?

As other threads indicate, the "MadMen" look is going to be v. popular amongst the mothers of Britain. slightly vintage/60s-ish. I think that's the one I'll be going for, anyway.

I suspect camel is tricky if not done in expensive fabrics. But it's probably only me who thinks that.

OllieWollieWoo · 03/09/2010 18:39

Navy seems very popular this A/W - especially matched with camel.

Capes too?

Oh yes - belted cardigans - cardis with a thin leather belt worn round the waist a bit like here

FunnyLittleFrog · 03/09/2010 19:17

Well, this weeks's 'Woman' magazine (Blush read it at MIL's this afternoon!)has new trends as camel, military, vintage and vamp.

The aviator jacket is going to be big too.

runoutofnameideas · 03/09/2010 19:27

Ooh that's handy as I happen to have a camel military style jacket...

Anyone seen a good camel knee length skirt?

camel/beige
navy
sheepskin/aviator jackets
1950s silhouettes, so big full floral skirts with nipped in waists and structured handbags, a bit madmen 60s too
minimal dressing, ie, grey trousers and grey jumper, camel separates or black/white separates with no fussy accessories
black vampy clothes
thin leather belts looped over after they are fastened (cant link at moment sorry)
not all at once Grin
oh an easy one is classic trousers, real trousers I mean with straight/slightly wide legs, you probably have some already. Easy to wear with aforementioned colours and belted cardigans

PS I might be a bit wrong though

vinvinoveritas · 03/09/2010 20:06

oh and wide stripes on tops

vinvinoveritas · 03/09/2010 20:06

and leather

runoutofnameideas · 03/09/2010 20:13

What are good shops for all this sort of thing. Mid-price with decent quality.
I normally like Gap, M&S (boring I know), some top shop stuff, Banana Republic and Uniqlo.

What you want is a pair of jeans with 'moto' stitching... ie they look like they should be worn by a motorbike racer as they'll have all sorts of reinforced stitching on legs esp. around knees IYSWIM, think of motorbike leather jeans with sort of padding/reinforcing on knees. Just bought nice gap ones for £55, they're much more flattering than you think as they hold your thighs in Grin and there are lots in the more fashion-forward high street - so probably start at zara and new look as opposed to M&S. Wear them with last year's flat black - any length is fine - biker/boho/whatever boots (you did buy some flat black boots didn't you?) and you are instantly A/W 2010.

Loving this trend cos you can wear pretty much anything on top - esp tshirts and long cardies which I pretty much live in.

verysomething · 03/09/2010 20:38

And wear a scarf just like teenagers are all still wearing - it has to be square shaped or rectangular at a pinch so it drapes properly, once around your neck with the points draping down your chest - just not bloody leopard print. So last year Wink

runoutofnameideas · 03/09/2010 21:13

sounds good and very doable. Can you post some links for the jeans and also the scarf look.

runoutofnameideas · 03/09/2010 21:13

I quite fancy some shearling biker boots - would that be naff or on trend??!

inveteratenamechanger · 03/09/2010 21:15

Good thread.

I really want a pair of classic navy trousers - anyone seen any nice ones.

runoutofnameideas · 03/09/2010 21:23

Actually maybe my OP should have said the ten things to buy this season to update my wardrobe.

So far then it seems we have:

  • biker jacket
  • proper trousers in black, navy or camel
  • scarf worn in teenagery way
  • longish cardigan belted with thin leather belt, maybe knotted?
  • camel stuff?

Have seen the moto jeans somewhere now verysomething so can see what you mean.

As others have said, navy and camel are in
Try Navy roll neck (boden winter collection)
Stripes are also big news (GAP boatneck breton top only £10)
Skinny tan leather belt can be worn over lots of outfits to give a fashion feel (Next has one for £15)
shoe boots are key (Clarks have a nice black pair for around £80)
Trousers that look like mens trousers (Topshop)
Snoods (I have my eye on a navy one in Accessorize)

woopsidaisy · 04/09/2010 17:14

Verysomething, animal print is going to be massive again this season I'm afraid. As usual stick to one item of clothing in animal print only.Pointy toe courts, turn up your skinny jeans, thin belts done like this in vogue.Just have a look at afew mags and go for it!

MrsC2010 · 04/09/2010 17:31

I've been after a navy roll neck for yonks...can't see any on Boden website...has anyone seen one anywhere?

Supercherry · 04/09/2010 18:13

British Eccentric- tartan, tweed, wellies, vivienne westwood style!

Glam goth- lace, velvet.

Military- again!

And I swear, EVERY winter, along will come sparkly stuff because it's the party season. Honest, just wait!
