Please help me choose a home hair dye.

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a home hair dye for me. I am totally clueless! I usually get my hair coloured at the hairdressers but I'm trying to save money so thought I'd do it myself. But then I went into Boots to choose one, and I couldn't believe how many there were and I didn't know where to start!

I'd like something that doesn't leave hair dry, doesn't contain too many nasty chemicals, is easy to apply, covers grey and gives a lovely colour. Any ideas?

My hair is naturally mid brown with gold hues and no red. My eyebrows are very dark, I don't have really pale skin and I don't have olive skin, somewhere inbetween. I'd like it to be darkish brown, a sort of chocolate colour but not too dark.

I have two patches of grey either side of my forhead and the odd grey hair in the rest. They are stubborn to colour, and poke through again pretty soon after I get it dyed at the salon.

Any suggestions very gratefully received!

Mrsden.

You could try emailing the Daniel Field helpline saying what you've said here and asking which colour would suit you best? They got back to me very quickly when I emailed them a couple of weeks ago.

Their website is a bit rubbish as they don't have pictures of the colours, but if you can get past that they are very good.

Their dyes cover grey pretty well and don't have the chemical smell a lot of the others do.

nb there are two Daniel Field sites - the one above is the one that he is actually connected to I think, and that I got the advice from.

Lush henna! It's all natural, comes in a big block and you just grate up what you need then mix with hot water and apply to clean hair. Chillax for a few hours (the longer the better) then wash out and you've got lovely red-brown shiny hair. They do four colours rouge (red, red!), marron (chestnut), brun (darker brown) and noir (almost black brown) and it's about £8 for a big block. Google will tell you more!
