I have 4 months before I turn 40 Shock :o

I am in need of a good moisturiser.

I usually end up buying without too much thought - what's on offer etc. I would like to take a more scientific approach now and ask for recommendations.

Skin type: dry with a tendency to pms break-out.

I like the Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream or Clinique Dramatically Different. The Elemis one is anti aging I think but I don't think the Clinique one is.

tulpe · 31/08/2010 19:18

Thanks Bluebump.

I have tried the Clinique one years ago and I found it quite drying.

RonansMummy · 31/08/2010 19:22

ooh and it won on a gok wan blind trial thingy :-)

traceybath · 31/08/2010 19:24

I like Olay regenerist in the red jar and the new serum is out soon.

Always does well in tests and I've used lots of more expensive creams.

I tend to spend more on my cleanser and like Vaishaly or Eve Lom.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 31/08/2010 19:26

Don't know what your budget is but I find the time delay stuff by Boots is very good.

PaulineCampbellJones · 31/08/2010 19:28

Can't remember who recommended it on here but the Skin Doctors resurfacing one.
Elemis Pro Collagen Marine. And best of the lot but super pricey is Creme de la mer. Oooh and Bliss do a good one too.

This is amazing.

purplepeony · 31/08/2010 19:32

Clinique Youth Surge is great- maybe the dry/combo sort for oyu- or their Super defence?

laydeecornyofsilke · 31/08/2010 19:32

I use elemis pro-collagen. Decleor is also very good and I may switch over to them when I've used up this jar. Their oils are great - they go under the moisturiser. I'm using a decleor eye cream at the moment which is pretty effective.

monkeysmama · 31/08/2010 19:34

I'm a fan of the Biotherm range. Lots of Italian women use it and look a lot better than English women of a comparable age (I accept that may not be why Grin)

Goldberry · 31/08/2010 19:34

Liz Earle's moisturisers are pretty fab. And her Cleanse and Polish is even better.

minipie · 31/08/2010 19:36

I really like Dermalogica tinted moisturiser - totally non greasy and light, and doesn't aggravate my acne prone skin.

monkeysmama · 31/08/2010 19:36

I used to use Clinique when I was younger (pre 30s) and one holiday I lost my luggage and stopped using it for a week. The breakout my skin suffered was awful and not at all natural (pre using it my skin had been blemish free) and I later discovered lots of friends had used Clinique until they found their skin addicted.

tulpe · 01/09/2010 07:36

Thanks for all your responses :)

Have tried Dermalogica. Love their cleanser but their moisturiser doesn't work for me.

Am going to try to get some samples from manufacturers now so that I can ascertain which is best for my skin. I have spent a fortune on creams - being pulled in by either packaging/promises or price - only to find that from the first application they just don't agree with me.

I bought two items from the Soap & Glory range yesterday for the first time. The No Clogs Allowed mask is fabulous. My skin is a little stressed at the moment - I am on a bit of a health kick......loads of water, no wine, no junk food etc and obviously as my body sorts itself out the skin reacts. The mask left the skin really clean and bright. Even DH was impressed so used it himself! Also bought the "Bright Here, Bright Now" moisturiser but not so sure about this one. Didn't seem to make any discernible difference to me whereas the reviews say it makes an instant impact Confused.

if you buy from QVC you can send it back within 28 days if you don't like it
They do elemis, decleor, Liz Earle etc

MarineIguana · 01/09/2010 08:49

I'm using Simple hydrating light moisturiser now to save money (on maternity leave), and that's pretty good (especially for £3 or so!) - but my fave is origins Have a Nice Day. It comes as a cream or lotion, I've found the lotion is best for me. I get spots (I'm also 40 - getting spots at 40 sucks doesn't it) and it's the best moisturizer for being very soothing and softening without making me break out. Also has spf in it which I like.

MarineIguana · 01/09/2010 08:50

Sorry just remembered you are not yet quite 40! How dare I :o

I have dry/sensitive skin type and am same age(ish) as you.

L'Oreal Youth Code is my new favourite esp at £10 on special in Boots.

Clarins Multi-Active Day is what I've used for years and found good.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide plump is good too.

La Prairie is heavy and crap and I used it on my bump for stretch marks in the end!

I heard Clinique superdefense was good?

DameGladys · 01/09/2010 09:20

Ooh you've just reminded me to get some of this:

superdrug swiss apple stuff just out

pointsmakeprizes · 01/09/2010 11:21

i've started to use the La Roche Posay range which you can get from boots - all natural ingredients - no parabens/alcohols and great for very sensitive skin. They do a anti-redness moisturiser which has a spf 15 in it and it's really lovely - very calming and soothing and really moisturises without feeling greasy. Think it's about £15 for 50ml.

Feels like all the top quality products and I've tried them all but much cheaper - i just got a gel cleanser for sensitive skin - at £10 for 200ml and it's brilliant stuff. I used to be a big dermalogica fan but i think this range is better and at half the price.

moragbellingham · 01/09/2010 13:38

I didn't realise you could get LaRoche Posay from Boots.
