Is it ok to wear a cream dress to a wedding?

Have got a gorgeous short dress that's cream and am worried that cream/White is reserved for the bride only??

Thinking of accessorizing with blue/purple?

Am very Confused so any advice would be great.

Have you got a link to the dress?

Both my SIL and Great Auntie wore cream to my wedding two weeks ago and a friend wore cream to the evening do. They all looked ok. Smile

KnitterNotTwitter · 31/08/2010 15:42

yes - as long as you accessorise with a colour

Thought I could replace the belt bit with a brightly coloured ribbon...

I think that'd be fine tbh because its not too wedding dressy iyswim? At a wedding I went to someone turned up in a floor length white dress ... which was awkward enough until someone at the hotel afterwards wished her a happy wedding day ...

RonansMummy · 31/08/2010 15:56

could you dye the dress?

Wanderingsheep · 31/08/2010 15:58

That is a pretty dress! It looks quite pinkish rather than cream.

TBH it's a bit difficult ATM because all the fashions for summer have been nude colours.

Do you know what the bride is wearing?

I had the traditional sort of dress for my wedding so I stood out as the bride but had I not been wearing something so traditional (we got married in Gretna Green) I might have not been quite so comfortable with other people being in cream.

pirateparty · 31/08/2010 16:02

Honestly - I wouldn't.

I wouldn't have cared if anyone wore cream/white to my wedding - in fact maybe someone did, who knows! I certainly can't remember if they did - however some brides are really funny about these things, and I just wouldn't risk it. Unless you know the bride well enough to ask.

I think as long as you accessorize it a but with other colours and don't wear a tiara and veil you'll be fine

moomiemoo · 31/08/2010 16:07

I do know the bride well - my dds are bridesmaids!!

She's wearing a floor length quite fitted lacy dress. We're going down a couple of days before the wedding so might ask her and will take my other option of a green maxi dress.

Was thinking about dying the dress but love the colour for another event!

It'll be fine especially with brightly coloured shoes etc.

pirateparty · 31/08/2010 16:17

Grin at the tiara!

I think you should just ask her then. I would certainly have told you to wear it and not dye a dress you love! I expect she'll say the same.

moomiemoo · 31/08/2010 16:26

Thanks. Will ask her about the dress but leave the tiara at home Smile

My sister wore cream to my wedding, though
she did ask me and I said it was OK (reluctantly).

In the photos it looks odd because it was a small wedding it looks like there are two brides!

I would ask, and look for any hesitation on her part if she says yes!Wink.

TrillianAstra · 31/08/2010 17:04

Looks very short!

I like the idea of swapping the belt for a coloured ribbon, with a coloured shawl or cardie or something it'll be fine.

tefal · 31/08/2010 17:07

I like it. Wear what you want. Any Bride who is that anal should be wound up anyway!

moomiemoo · 31/08/2010 17:19

trillian does look very short in the picture I think because model is so tall unlike me!

Have just remembered there's a rehersal dinner the night before so think I'll wear cream for that and green for the wedding.
