Where the heck do you find classic, bootcut jeans and cords to fit.I refuse to pay designer prices or for alteration when it comes to jeans.Bodens size 6 still too large on trouser's(tops & dresses fit prefect).Petite's are too short and childrens sizes are no use at all. P.S Have not lost or gained weight and was a standad size 8 20 years ago, hmmm,?

There are some teeny sized designer jeans left in teh Outnet clearance sale here

PlumSykes · 27/08/2010 10:59

Generally speaking, I find Boden trousers quite roomy, so you might be better off trying somewhere on the high street like New Look, who cut fairly small. They have plenty of size 6 jeans, and might be a better bet.

FiveOrangePips · 27/08/2010 12:23

Top Shop might be worth a look too?

dinkystinky · 27/08/2010 12:25

Definitely try topshop.

traceybath · 27/08/2010 12:58

Agree topshop or the Johnnie B range at boden.

providentielle · 27/08/2010 13:20

Why don't you want to pay for alteration? I'm very slim and can never find things to fit my tiny waist though they fit everywhere else. I now just get them taken in and its the best £7 I spend. They pin them to the right fit while I am wearing them, take off the belt loops and cut a V shape from the waist band and stitch all back together. You cant even tell it's been done and now every pair of jeans I own fit. It's not that much money onto a pair of jeans and it's so worth every penny and more

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 13:42

No advice, but omg, your tiny waist! You'll look good in a sack.

zulinka · 27/08/2010 13:48

Yes I do that V alteration thing when it's just the waist and yes it's brilliant but when it's thighs and hips as well you start getting irritated- you feel your literally making a new garment(your alteration bill certainly seems to say as much!).
All comments and advice are being taken on board,- thank-you everyone.
I am now popping up to Wimbledon Village to pick up some clothes .......from the tailor !

I have a tailor too, I have to get all trousers, dresses and skirts shortened. He is quite clever though, and has taken dresses up for me from the straps. It's good to have a tailor you can fall back on. I used to live in Spain many years ago and women there are always popping in to their sastre. It's unusual here unless you're four foot nothing or size six and need to get an 8 taken in.

I think my tailor pities me now, the prices seem to go down the more I take to him!

Owlingate · 27/08/2010 14:05

H&M size 6 is about right, topshop assume tallness sometimes in the cut of their trousers (like there seems to be a long distance between the waist and crotch whatever the style of trousers).

Avoid Next, Wallis etc. their sizes are massive. And yes I was a size 8 2 children ago and am suddenly finding them roomy so sizes are definitely getting bigger. Massimo Dutti used to do good trousers with a slim waist.

Wow, I,m amazed, took your advice and went to New Look and BROUGHT a pair of black bootcut jeans which fit beautifully- have not done that for years.Their really 'grown up' -not faded, ripped etc and not indecent hipsters.
Only possible problem is at £9.99 I,m worried they could dissolve in the wash ! but at £9.99 I could aways buy 7 pairs and dispose of them after a couple of washes !!!- o.k, not very green I know.
Now washing black jeans, inside out, cold wash- any other tips ?.

purpleduck · 28/08/2010 09:58

hang to dry... :)

purpleduck · 28/08/2010 09:59

Oh, and wash on their own at first. I hate when you wash them with other stuff, and you end up with weird crease marks that never go away. Why does that happen? Hmm

needs life

CuppaTeaJanice · 28/08/2010 10:04

New Look jeans have always lasted pretty well for me. I'm glad you found some to fit. What size did you get? I ask because I tried on a size 6 corset there recently and it was baggy, so I thought they might have started using vanity sizing. I guess a big shop like that must have loads of suppliers though so maybe there's variation in their sizes.

As for the black jeans, if you've got a few black items that are starting to fade, stick them in the machine with a pack of black dylon every year or so. Brings them back to life!!

Do you have problems finding belts to fit? I'm always having to add more holes, which isn't possible with the more decorative styles. Has anybody here found a good supplier of small belts?

zulinka · 28/08/2010 11:00

Yes, they are a size 6 but I do have a pair of black bootcut jeans from yes wait for it ...New Look from a few seasons ago still sitting in the bottom of the wardrobe (unworn) which are huge !.So I guess it's a case of staying on the ball and not dismissing a shop forever as the cuts and sizes do vary from time to time.
This little episode show's just how mad this whole thing can get-Thought I had the perfect answer , I persuaded(very difficult) Gap U.K to send over size 00 jean,s from the U.S. I had a fantasy vision of my other half helping me to do the zip up until they 'loosened up'!.Well when they arrived they where more like un an english size 8-10 !!!.
I,m thinking this problem is due to vanity sizing
