Neal's Yard Remedies - image and reputation

lavender11 · 26/08/2010 15:18

I started a thread about body shop direct selling but in the course of my internet searches I noticed that Neal's Yard Remedies now do direct selling too. Of the very few products I have tried they have always been lovely but from memory they are very expensive. What image do you think Neal's Yard Remedies has in terms of both price and target market? My first reaction is that these would be difficult to sell direct because of the high price tag? Do you agree ? If anyone out there is actually doing this and is already a rep any thoughts would be greatly appreciated thanks

in addition anyone with any thoughts generally on the product???

I really like Neal's Yard, natural but effective. I use their facial oil daily. Cost may be an issue in the current climate though, people are cutting back in anticipation of needing to even if they don't now. But definitely one for the grown-ups if that is what you are after.

Personally as much as I admire the late Anita Roddick I wouldn't touch The Body Shop with a barge pole - image-wise I think of it more as a teen brand.

Lionstar · 26/08/2010 19:45

I love Neals Yard stuff, and like to splash out now and again. They are a little bit pricey, but not what I'd call expensive. Definately like their ethos.

Agree they probably wouldn't appeal to the teen market, think they are in the 30+ age bracket.

DancingThroughLife · 26/08/2010 19:46

I know a few people who do Neal's Yard from home.

Have got all the baby stuff for DD, the Baby Balm is amazing stuff. Has fixed everything we've come across so far - chapped hands when first born, cradle cap, bit of flaky elbow skin. Amazing.

I don't think it's that much more expensive than Body Shop is it? BS used to be a lot cheaper. I was shocked to see how expensive it has become lately. Probably now it's owned by Loreal or whoever it is. I used to like BS for Anita Roddick, but I don't like them at all now.

wonderstuff · 26/08/2010 19:50

Yes expensive, but I'd much rather treat myself to NY than BS. Also Body Shop is everywhere, but few Neals Yard shops or stockists - I wanted to get some baby bits when ds was born but nowhere in my quite large town sells it.

spiritmum · 26/08/2010 19:58

One thing I have noticed is that if people are feeling like a treat they are more likely to spend on a beauty product than anything else atm.

If I'm honest I regard NYR as reasonably priced but I know some find it expensive so I guess it depends on who your target audience is likely to be.

TigerseyeMum · 26/08/2010 20:17

I am a big NY fan, love the brand, love the image, love what they are trying to achieve.

I think they appeal to people who want good quality stuff to put on their skin and have some understanding of ingredients. They are also good for a treat as they are quite pricey for the everyday market.

I would also use L'Occitance, REN and Dermalogica on my skin.Wouldn't touch BS in a million years.

If it helps I am mid (oh OK late) 30s, professional suburban female.I wouldn't do a NYR party but I would buy direct as we don't have a NYR shop and I have to pay their extortionate postage or travel 30 miles to get something.

NYR has a really good image, I've been a consultant almost from the begining in 2009, I love selling it and the people at the parties love it, if people are broke, they just buy one product but when they realise how long products last for they tell others that actually its really good value for money for products full of vitality. Not many people had heard of it where I live in Wiltshire but people are happy to try it at parties and I now do lots of parties. Check out my website www.nyrparty.com

littlemissindecisive · 29/01/2011 07:40

Can i ask how many hours you do.....on top of the 2 hour parties? I'm considering joining but want to be sure i'm fully aware of what will be involved.

dingdong3 · 04/02/2011 22:23

Hi littlemiss...another NYR consultant here.

I would typically arrive at someone's house at about 7.40 for an 8pm start. The party would generally run for 2 hours and I aim to be home by 10.30. Does depend on the numbers at the party though as if everyone wants to chat to you, it can be 11 sometimes before you leave.

The order process would then take another hour or so, again depending on how many people ordered.

Once the order arrives, there's another hour I would say to get it bagged for each person, record all your customers details for your database and then deliver to the hostess.

You need to be incredibly disciplined when ordering and not order lots of yummy stuff for yourself! If you are disciplined, you'll make about 20% of your sales. It's advertised as 25% but you need to factor in the cost of your bags, samples, hostess gifts, additional brochures, postage costs for the delivery to get your home and petrol costs to the party. If you have more than 3 or 4 parties per month (depending on volume of sales), you'll get an additional 5% commission up to an additional 15% if you are a doing megabucks. I've gotten the additional 5% about half the months I've been doing it.

I would line up a few parties with families and friends before you join so that you benefit most from the incentives that are available to you in your first month.
There are good vouchers if you achieve certain sales volumes in your first 30,60,90 days so the sooner you can get started, the easier it will be to get these incentives.

Happy to answer any other questions...just ask!

Thanks Dingdong. I have signed up and waiting for my kit! Very excited Grin

littlemissindecisive · 05/02/2011 17:33

And to answer original Op....i think they have a fabulous reputation. I know plenty of ladies that pay the same for other 'premium' beauty brands so i'm hoping they will fall in love with NYR. Pay the same for organic and less harmful products. The products have won enough awards from the press too.

I think it depends as to whether you can reach this 'target market' of customers. I think i can with my friends, family and the area we live in. Lots of 30plus mummies Grin
