Can you help me find a wedding dress?

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 19:54

My DP wants the big white wedding, I want something less traditional.....

I love this dress but it isn't "weddingy" enough according to him and to be honest, I don't want to be confused as a guest either.
I quite like this but i'm not sure it will look as nice on me as the model and it is very big. Like the corset bit of it though.

It feels like an impossible task!

The first one is beautiful the second isn't.

Is that the only colour the first one comes in?
Dressmaker to copy style in ivory maybe?

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 20:15

it does come in white I'm self concious of my body (size 12) and i'm not sure i'd be happy in it in white, or the other colours really as it doesn't look very forgiving.

If you like them then you will love Jenny Packham wedding dresses. Here
I had one and loved it.

PotteringAlong · 23/08/2010 20:34

I got mine from berkatex brides and was the most beautiful thing in the world - am a size 14 and made me feel awesome. They've got a good website but rubbish at links so just google ... Good luck!

SmellyPirateHooker · 23/08/2010 20:39

This is pretty

What is your budget?

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/08/2010 20:41

Maggie Sottero do lovely dresses. There are plenty of slimmer fitting ones but they all have great corsetry to they hold you all in beautifully

this is similar style to the first one

this has lace like the second but is slimmer fitting

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/08/2010 20:44

Or you could go for a wedding dress but in a different colour. My dress was red (pics on profile).

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 20:52

Budget is up to 2K I suppose but that doesn't mean I'm looking to spend that much necessarily.

I tried on the Ronald Joyce one when I was looking for my dress. It was huge and heavy, but was amazing. I had whittled my choices down to 2 dresses, the one I bought (on my profile) and this one. I didnt take the big one, but it came a very close second!

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 20:54

Tilly - I like that idea though red wouldn't suit me.

This is beautiful

Oh and this is so pretty

SmellyPirateHooker · 23/08/2010 21:16

Similar style to one in OP but more fitted

Valentino

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 21:19

Thanks smelly....they're very white though, are there places that dye clothes? Maybe that's the way to go?

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 21:28

Lol, typically all the Jenny Packham dresses I like are very low cut - only small boobed girls can wear those, 30Gs look porno in low cut anythings.

OP posts:
PaulineCampbellJones · 23/08/2010 21:42

I am a 34F and had a Jenny Packham strapless one (Valetta) they are cut and made so well that they are non porno. Agree about some of them though!!

SmellyPirateHooker · 23/08/2010 21:43

You could go white/ivory and accessorise with a colour? A red belt, red shoes and red flower for example?

If you're a size 10/12 you can definitely pull off white if you want to. There are places that professionally dye clothes though.

msrisotto · 23/08/2010 21:55

I'm not sure I want white though......

I guess i'll just have to go on a diet and lose weight to feel better about myself in a dress tbh.

That second one you linked is gorgeous Tilly

MsRisotto I love that green dress in the white. I think it could look suitably weddingy with the right headwear. Don't listen to DP - they know nothing.Wink I bet if you turned up in that, with flowers, and headdress he wouldn't evern realise it was the same dress.

Personally I am well and truly ready for the return of shoulders and/or sleeves on brides. I'm so over the plain sleeveless corset thing.

maktaitai · 23/08/2010 22:06

I think it's worth exploring something like these?

Maybe just the corset from them?

FellatioNelson · 23/08/2010 22:08

simple and classy

FellatioNelson · 23/08/2010 22:15

maktaitai some of those are just beautiful. Not for everyone, admittedly, but beautiful all the same.

employmentlawquery · 24/08/2010 01:18

I saw some lovely dresses by Alce Temperley in bicester Village reduced from over 2k to £800. If you are anywhere near, that woul be a good place to start.

Tillyscoutsmum · 24/08/2010 06:23

msrisotto - have you tried any dresses on yet ? Honestly, if you are a size 12 and have a decently made bridal gown on, you will look and feel fantastic. Put some time aside, get your best undies on and make appointments at a few shops to try on some dresses. The sort of thing you like the look of online may not suit you and conversely, stuff you might not even dream of trying on could look amazing.

Lots of dresses come in a light gold/champagne colour which can be more flattering than white (including the lace one I linked to above). If you really decided to go for a colour that wasn't readily available, then finding the style you want and getting a dress made in the fabric you want is probably the best bet.

msrisotto · 24/08/2010 09:11

Great suggestions!
Maktaitai - I'm not much of an alternative dressing person however, I love those dresses you linked to. Particularly a big obviously wedding dress in blue!

Fellatio - I really like the neckline and the lace on that phase eight one, again I worry that it is a bit traditional for my taste but to be fair, I haven't tried anything on yet as our potential date has recently moved from 2012 to this time next year!

Cripes, just saw the starting prices of the coloured dresses are £2,200, the one I like looks like it'd be closer to 3K!! Bugger. I love them.
