Is it ever acceptable to wear a t-shirt under a sleeveless dress at a wedding?

I think I know the answer even as I type. I've found a good dress but it's sleeveless and low cut and altogether far too revealing from the waist upwards.

Even if I get a bolero or something I'd be showing too much cleavage for my liking. It'd be perfect with a stretchy top underneath, but I'm guessing this will look rather naff.

The problem isn't really the dress, it's me being so short. Necklines are therefore way below the line between subtle and outrageous :)

i went to a very religious wedding recently and many of the women had sheer-ish long sleeved tops under what would have been strappy or revealing dresses. depends very much on the dress and type of t shirt as to whether it is do-able

I have this problem being short, and I often shorten the straps a little so that the neckline is slightly higher. It's really easy to do and means you aren't worrying about exposing too much.

please dont - in the past i've shorten straps too. Or could you sew a little bit of lace/material to cover - depending on the style?

What about a camisole and a cardi?

these keep me and my Gcups undercontrol whem wearing dresses. I tend to cross the line to "out on the pull" too easily otherwise.

I wear a vest under a few of my maxi dresses but only for daytime casual attire.

I wore one like ipod's cami under my dress to a wedding recently, all that showed was the lace. I have a lot of scarring on my chest so need to cover, but I think it looked fine. Also wore a light shawl/wrap thing.

Just to clarify - does it have straps, or is it strapless? With straps it could be fine with the cami/other coverup combo

can you sew in a pice of fabric to avoid flashing too much cleavage? A dressmaker should be able to do it for you.

Thanks to everyone. I will go shopping tomorrow and either buy something to go over the top, or a different dress. I am also gonig to have to buy some of those cleavage cover-ups because they will change my life!

No. That kind of ultra-casual ultra-young layering only works with very boho casual sundresses and 'beachy' maxis, like FatFace at el. Sounds wrong for a wedding.
