Coat and boots - what do you think?

latrucha · 18/08/2010 19:00

We live in wet and windy West Wales, so I'm always looking for practical and stylish winter outer clothes. I wonder if they exist? I haven't succeeded yet.

My latest gambit is to try and buy boots and coat together so at least they'd look nice, so...

Do you think I'd feel quite nice wearing these two together

these boots but in black

this coat

or perhaps this one but it's not very weather proof

Or do you think I'd feel like I should be walking a dog in a muddy field?

Or can you do better [hopeful emoticon]?

Those are nice, but I really need a hood. Ever been to Aberystwyth? Wink

I bet you are now going to tell me it has to be waterproof!Grin

latrucha · 18/08/2010 20:23

Well waterproof is good. Wink

I love the Urban Outfitters one I think you linked to (link didn't get there). Bit outside my budget though. Sad

Were the boot sok?

Did you just hate the coats?

Latrucha-why is it so important to you what MQOC thinks of your choice in boots and coats? I dont come on here very often-is she a fashion editor or something? The boots are great IMHO!!!!(grin)

Maryqueenofchocs · 19/08/2010 09:53

I'm not keen on padded hooded coats i'm afraid, if you need a hood imo, go wool....

But you know, my opinion shouldn't really influence what you purchase, I can only recommend what I would wear...Smile

spiritmum · 19/08/2010 10:02

Latrucha, I did read that waxed jackets a la Barbour are cool this year. I used to have a long chocolate one that I bought at a concession - it made me look totally minted even though I wasn't, but more importantly it kept me warm and dry whilst walking a stinky labrador.

You'll get the waterproofing without the padding. And the hoods are usually detachable. Shop around on the net or try factory outlet villages to find a reduced one.

From your links, I like the boots but prefer them in brown, they look more expensive. Like the parka with the furry hood better than the other coat.

latrucha · 19/08/2010 12:27

headintheclouds - it was a question for everyone.

back later!

spiritmum - it would be amazing if I was actually in fashion! I'll have a look around.

MQOC - you may have a point about wool. I hadn't really considered it simply because the hood on the last wool coat I had kept falling down, but that doesn't mean they all will.

Looks like the boots are a goer then, if I can find a coat to go with them. They're available on the Very website, for which there is a money off code in the promotional codes section on here at the moment. Wink

ladies international jacket

HerHonesty · 20/08/2010 19:07

oh snap mary queen. but in brown.

and i like the boots and the jacket but it doesnt look very good quality.

Maryqueenofchocs · 20/08/2010 19:24

herhonesty love mine, always feel rather posh wearing it, as if I'm about to jump into my rangey sport and head off for a shoot...!

spiritmum · 21/08/2010 08:53

THis is what I had. More Camilla than Kate, I'd say Wink.

And you only look really posh - not wannabe - if you drive off in a Defender with a Jack Russel on the front seat.

Maryqueenofchocs · 21/08/2010 11:24

Wow spirit, that really is posh!Smile

spiritmum · 21/08/2010 16:49

Yeah, but then I opened my mouth and gave the game away! Grin

HerHonesty · 22/08/2010 07:11

yup. the renault scenic doesnt quite cut it.

FellatioNelson · 22/08/2010 20:32

Love the boots and the first coat, though personally I'd go with brown boots and blue/grey coat rather than black/black. But then again, I am walking dogs in muddy fields!

I really want one of those quilted belted barbour jackets, but I doubt I'll stretch to it this year. Bought a lovely wool tweed double-breasted funnel-necked Barbour coat last winter, so don't think I can justify another just yet.

I think you're right about black / black FNelson. That coat sounds great.

I am contemplating wool still thanks to tethersend but very undecided.
