What can I buy now that won't date? i am so bored with fashion.

I have coats and jackets that still look ok 10 years on.I think really good quality and classic design always looks good.My Maxmara items havn't dated,some Jaeger jackets are ok[and some episode and Marella].Anyhow with 4 dc's i will never be able to afford these makes again so am keeping them.However i do agree that shapes of most other things change slightly. But i still love and wear a 10 year old baggy cashmere jumper and the same well cut white linen trousers i have worn for years[warehouse], the same gold hoops and diamond studs.

Well yes - diamond studs are fine and don't date but I'd say pearls do really. A pearl necklace is very 80's sloane in my mind.

You may be able to keep the odd thing or 'archive' it (blushing at my own ponciness but generally things do date.

Also - do none of your shapes/sizes change?

I think long loops of freshwater pearls looped round once [like a choker] and hanging down look good.[with big pearl studs].I have them in blue/purple and cream.I think short pearls are not ok right now.Seriously i am in my 40's and pearls do look really nice against your skin or maybe i am just channeling my inner Maggie Thatcher!.

I love pearls Teta and have a long string I wear in SJP style (kidding myself emoticon) but have to be careful what I wear them with to avoid looking too Maggie

I really wish short pearl necklaces would come back into fashion though.

Animal print, smart leather (skirt and trousers) and quality cashmere/coat in camel (Max Mara) are the things I've had longest and wear every year mixed with more fashionable items. I fear their time may be up next winter though as they're set to be so on trend this year.

I think that's the point really - the more fashionable and different an item is the less longevity it will have.

Though skinny jeans have stuck around. And gladiators.

I bought a short freshwater pearl necklace this year and don't give a damn if it's 'in' or not. To my mind it looks fairly timeless (I'm about as far removed from a sloane as possible) and I agree that pearls make your skin look nice. I do want a longer one too but it will have to wait until our finances have recovered from our holiday!

I can't abide anything in animal print. It always makes me feel like I'm channelling Bet Lynch.

What do you wear your long black jersey skirts with? I have one & I love it but NEVER know what to wear on top.

everything dates IMO. The collars become bigger or smaller, the lengh of jackets and trousers changes, etc. Those little details are a give away that a piece is not current. Whether you mind or not is a different matter.

mojo - ummmmmmm tunicy tops, cropped cardies with vests/t-shirts underneath, layers really, hoodies,stripey t shirts.
I've got as couple of long sleeve stripey t shirts/tops that I want to wear when the weather gets a bit colder (baggy boyfriend style - like alexa chung ish)

Pearls look really sloaney to me. Most 'classics' are things that either wouldn't suit me or I just find too dull. I can't even find a white shirt to fit me.
