I saw a couple of girls wearing them at the hairdresses yesterday so I popped into new look today and brought a plain black pair. I'll be 30 in a few months - am I going to look totally stupid?

I'm going on holiday on Monday and I just thought they might be really comfy for travelling in.........

less to do with your age and more to do with your shape/height/leg length and which style you choose IMO

if you like them then go for it

sweetheart · 18/08/2010 17:00

I'm a pear shape with short legs - ekkkk!

not neccessarily eek Grin

you'll just need to try them on and see how they look

tbh i saw girls on holiday wearing them and I just don't get it? Why would you want your crutch so low.....I have failed to see anyone look good in them imo.

All guys we were with also found them a source of great hilarity..

sorry.Sad

oh dear - well to be fair these do not have a very low cruth - they are sort of like tracksuit pants but in a lighter fabric. I told dh I brought some yesterday because I thought they would be comfy for travelling and he said he won't get on the plane with me wearing them!

You will look like a tragic fashion victim and people will point and laugh.

suitejudyblue · 19/08/2010 10:41

No one of any age or shape should wear these, I remember them from the 80s and they were just as unflattering then as they are now.

Sorry - nothing personal to you, but do you still have the receipt Grin

I first saw these when I was on holiday in France a couple of months ago. I'm sorry, but I think they're hideous - they look as if you've got a saggy nappy hanging about in there. Nobody, but nobody, can get away with wearing them.

AbsOfCroissant · 19/08/2010 10:45

I have two pairs, but cropped ones, and I freaking love them (and am only 2 years younger than them). I will defend my hareems to the death, as I think they are fabulous, and yes, men make fun, but most men know very little about fashion. And just don't understand.

As for the crotch thing - meh. Whatevs. They're very comfortable (especially in very hot weather - so not here) and can look stylish if accessorised appropriately. I've had to put up with "hammer time" comments (stupid brother), but then super fashionable and lovely friend said that they were awesome, and she's much better placed to comment.

sweetheart · 19/08/2010 11:01

these ones are actually not at all baggy round the crotch area - does that make a difference? Hmmmmmmm thinks I may be returning them! Although they are dead comfy for slouchy wear!

in fact they are more like magic genie trousers than MC Hammer pants

Never too old for genie pants but most people are the wrong shape.

They suit me and I wear them and I am over 40

Whoamireally · 19/08/2010 21:43

Having once lusted after a pair myself, I have now come to the conclusion that if you need to ask the question in the first place then the answer is yes Grin
