its finally time i get my new kitchen!! dh creates bespoke ones weekly but iv been waiting 5 years!!
Anyway so far i have decided on solid oak shaker type styling (sleek lines but still the cosyness of real wood) oak tops and contempery handles iv chosen a selection of purple and pink rectangular victorian style tiles. As its a diner aswell as a kitchen i want to create somewhere cosy that we can entertain in without it feeling too much like a kitchen iyswim? so i have seen a lovely plum colour for the walls (the room gets quite alot of light from the font and back of the house and we are having spots(lights)) And i was thinking of wallperpering the back wall where my ding table will go? iv found a beautifull paper pink with greys flowery type pattern would this work?
all opinions and ideas would be greatly apprieciated, as iv found it really hard due to the fact that all kitchen designs iv seen are really boring!!!
tia

Have you been looking at the magnet brochure? there was a kitchen with purple walls in there. I love the solid oak, but went with cream in the end from wicks due to price....i love purple but otherhalf said no and we went with neutral tiles and apple white walls.

Do you think you will change your mind quickly after having it done? will it make the room dark?

i dont think i will but to be honest (Sssssh dont tell dh) im not worried about paint and paper as the cost is in respective to the kitchen (its at cost but still ££££) is not great ifyswim? i dont mind if i cahnge it in a couple of years. i just dont want to go with something only to find iv made a huge style fauxe pas. The colours all seem to work together i just dont know if it will create the feel im going for

Personally I would find that all too dark, though darker walls are fashionable at the moment. I would go for pale grey painted walls apart from the wallpapered one. But it is easy to change the wall colour, most important thing to get right are the cupboards, floors & tiles.

Btw, you may get more responses if you post this under Property/DIY...

reminds me when we first moved here 6yrs ago we painted the bedroom bright red, and the living room chocolate and orange...very fashionable at the time, hated it a year later.....and its still like that, want to re-decorate just major hassle.

I would say forget about the wallpaper. No matter what you pick it adds instant visual clutter.

I have white cabinets and white tiled countertop and backsplash, golden tone wood floor, and two colours of paint -- around the stove and in one other area of wall that just out between the cabinets and the fridge I have a deep burgundy, and for the two window walls something like Farrow and Ball's 'matchstick' only a tiny bit khaki-er.

I like dark colours, and I think if a room gets plenty of light or if you want to make it cosier or even add some drama, a deep colour is the way to go. For the eating area I would be tempted to use the deeper colour, with a big, vivid picture hung to create the illusion of a separate space, and use a deep toned neutral for the rest, so that your cabinets will shine out. Or maybe choose a lighter colour from your tiles.
