Leggings when you're not a size 8

I have ordered a pair of leggings to try on and see what they look like.

I was thinking of pairing them with things like tunics, boyfriend cardis etc and long boots, so not a lot of the actual leggings will be on show IYSWIM.

Thing is, I'm a size 16. Do you think they will look OK or will I look like this?

dunno, I only wear tights for running (size 14) because I* too self consious about my legs and bum. but if you cover most of the top part you might pull it off.

traceybath · 13/08/2010 17:58

You'll look fine - they're just thick tights really aren't they?

Whoamireally · 13/08/2010 18:03

Oh god. That could easily be a photo of me. I am going to go upstairs right now and chuck my leggings away.

dexter73 · 13/08/2010 18:04

You will look fine in them. Traceybath is right, they are just like thick tights.

CuppaTeaJanice · 13/08/2010 18:19

I think the rule is if an outfit looks indecent without the leggings, then it won't look too good with them! Even size 8s get cellulite and camel toe, so it's best to wear leggings with tunics, short skirts and dresses, long jumpers etc. whatever your size.

BornToFolk · 13/08/2010 18:24

I like CuppaTeaJanice's rule! Everyone should abide by it. I'm getting sick of seeing wobbly arses and thighs in leggings.

domesticsluttery · 13/08/2010 18:30

Thank you!

The tunics and cardigans are pretty long, they come to about 2" above my knee.

I suppose I'll just have to wait until they come on Monday and try them. Perhaps I should post a photo when I try them on and you can vote whether to keep them or not! Grin

i think if you look knock-kneed in them you should send them back!because i see that far too often.not a good look imo

rewardgirl · 13/08/2010 18:35

I don't think leggings or jeggings should be worn without a tunic or long (i.e. to at least the thighs) top, regardless of what size you are. They just look bad otherwise. I've seen plenty of young size 8s in leggings with shorter tops and it is NEVER flattering....

I think with long tops/tunics/dresses etc they can look fine with any size or shape. Janice's rule is a good rule of thumb.

I hate my legs above the knee so I tend to wear leggings under dresses which are an inch or so too short to wear by themselves.

cookielove · 13/08/2010 18:36

I wear leggings, and i am a size 16. I will only wear them with skirts and dresses, i think the bum needs to be covered and a good portion of leg to, other wise it is seeing to much, iyswim.

However if your cardi's and your tunics are long, i think you will look fab.

Jewelsandgems · 13/08/2010 19:07

Cheap leggings may not be that flattering (are to hardly anyone) because they have the awful skinny waistband that really cuts in and creates a lump amd bump where none existed.

I wear the topshop high waisted ones and they are very flattering, and no bumps.

I think you'll look really nice in them with the items you've said.

laughalot · 13/08/2010 19:10

I was a 16 now a 14 and i wear them with tunics, long cardis ect.
