Grey/dull hair - do you dye?

I have just re-coloured my hair, having lived with what I believe L'Oreal call 'unsightly greys' for a few weeks.

I also saw this link on yahoo daily mail article reader beware - some brave soul (or lazy mare) who no longer bothers.

It occurred to me that ALL of my 30+ friends colour their hair. I can't think of a single one who doesn't. Are we all grey underneath??

What do you do?

I found my first grey hair at 16. Have dyed it ever since (am now 36).
Keep thinking it might be time to stop soon.
That long grey hair look is striking on a model, but I fear that on a normal person like me it might be a tad....witchy?
My hair is rather long at the moment, I might go short and grey at the same time. It's not completely grey though, more badger.

Actually, I don´t think that that model does look that good.

I think that "curtains" hairstyle just looks awful with her high forehead and the hair looks in bad condition with horrible ratty ends.

My friend stop dying her (very long) greying hair when she was pregnant.

I can confirm that there was a witchy element.

It's the texture as much as anything. I do so hate how coarse and wiry the hair becomes :(

Terrible Mum alert! I dyed my hair through both pregnancies...so far kids seem ok!

AbsOfCroissant · 10/08/2010 14:24

I've been contemplating this, as the greys multiplied when I went through a stressful last few months of my old job. I then moved job, and so far they haven't multiplied further, but it still made me wonder what to do - dye it, or leave it? I used to dye my hair constantly (I've been pretty much every natural-ish colour under the sun), so thought leaving it to recuperate for a bit was kind of me, but now I'm thinking I might need to cover the grey

Does dying the hair make it less wiry and coarse? (Intrigued).

mitochondria · 10/08/2010 16:31

I dyed mine when pregnant too.

MerryMarigold · 10/08/2010 16:35

ragged, it seems to with mine - or it makes the other hair more wiry and course! Anyway, you can't tell so much difference between them!

[I never realised i was so passionate about hair dye. It's the only thing i do for my appearance i guess].

I have some sense that lightening hair makes it a bit more coarse, so possibly it would even it out.

Also dyed my hair in pregnancy. I wasn't advocating otherwise ... I thought my friend should have stuck with her highlights Wink
