Am not a straightener person so am clueless....but want to buy a friend a set for xmas (Yes I KNOW it's August!)

She has short hair bit like this

So do i get the GHD IV ones? Or the wider ones?
Are there any offers EVER?!
Is it worth paying extra for these with the case and mat

And are they really any better then ceramics!?

TIA :o :o

It really depends on her hair type and preference imo.

GHDs are not good for me, yet my sister swears by them. I have very thick naturally curly hair.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/08/2010 16:45

Thank you,

her hair is quite thin...not amazingly so though (iygwim!)

She uses Ceramic straightners everyday to straighten it

Ooh I'm a novice :o

If she has got thin hair then don't get the wide ones - the thinner ones will work perfectly fine on her hair and you can use them to curl hair too. I didn't pay extra for the case/mat and I haven't missed it tbh. You can buy a mat separately for much cheaper if you really want to.

Hope that helps!

I love GHDs.

I used to have the old mark 3's but my DH recently bought me the new mark 4 set. He got me the breast cancer awareness one (£10 went to charity) which came with the straighteners themselves, 2 sectioning clips, a handbag sized brush, a heatproof carry bag and a tote bag. It was really good value and a perfect present, depending on your price limit.

I've never posted a link before so hope this works

this one here

You don't usually see many offers but you don't have to buy them from the actual GHD website. There are other official ones with cheaper prices but generally you will pay more from salons and GHD themselves.

A great investment. My first set lasted me 6 years and still worked perfectly when I got my new ones.

My hair is naturally thin, frizzy and wavy and they tame my hair perfectly. The wide plates are for super long hair and the minis are for very short hair.

Hope that helped :o

Ooh thank you Jellie!

Do you use the carry bag? would you use the mat?

She's been absolutely wonderful this year so will spend up to £130 for the coloured ones (A bit extra if theres a good deal maybe) (I wish I could use them! My curly mop wont take it! The red ones are gorgeous!)

6 years! ooh they do seem like a good investment!

Thank you!!

They usually release a special edition set in the run-up to Christmas, for about £10-20 more than just buying the actual straighteners. I got mine in October '08 and they came in a leather case with a selection of mini GHD products, so it might be worth hanging on.

Think I got mine from lookfantastic.com and found a code for 10% off online :)

JellieDeBellie · 09/08/2010 09:42

the official ghd website has a list oflegit websites because there are alot of fakes about. the official ones always have a hologram on them.

Yes i always use the mat/carry bag and have used the tote bag lots for picnics etc very handy :)

MilkNoSugarPlease · 09/08/2010 13:52

Ooh thank you all!

Coloured ones are £15 (or more depending on colour) cheaper on Amazon so may go there!

TY all!

Is it worth buying any of the GHD hair products?

I did warn you I was a novice! :o

Ive only ever used the shampoo and conditioner an di got on fine with it but no more so than my usual products. its always advisable to use a heat defence spray or serum before straightening to protect the hair from the heat so if you wanted to buy one you could. i use the tresemme spray for only £3(ish) so no need to splash out on the expensive stuff :)

MilkNoSugarPlease · 09/08/2010 22:27

Thank you! Will get some shampoo she loves but is pricey and heat defence spray! Thanks so much for your help!
