Need new and comfortable shoes Clarks is just plain depressing. Not sure where else to look online. I do a lot of walking (don't drive) and am hefting heavy toddler and two slightly oder children around most of the time so have to be practical.

Just need something that is comfy but not hideous, I don't wear heels have one pair of wedges and several worn out pairs of Birkenstocks, my last pair of clarks Mary jane style shoes are wearing out and I really fancy something slightly different that I can wear with skirt or trousers. So not asking for much (just the moon on a stick).

Some Hotter shoes are available in extra-wide fittings, and some of those are not too fugly.

Also look at Emotion shoes.

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 08/08/2010 10:02

theses are nice I may well end up with another pair of mary janes after all... talk about a comfort zone.

Count yourself lucky- I am a AA fitting and buying shoes- my DD is the same- is a NIGHTMARE- and has been since I was a year old!

Nothing- and I mean nothing- ever fits unless they are a tiny bit too short, or they have sme kind of strap/laces to keep them on.
I tend to wear sandals, converse style trainers and boots.

I thought wide feet were catered for pretty well these days- NEXT, M&S and Clarks all do wide fittings.

differentID · 08/08/2010 10:07

try evans if you have wide feet.

missmoopy · 08/08/2010 10:12

try Very.co.uk - they have a range of wider fitting shoes. Evans do too.

missmoopy · 08/08/2010 10:14

oh bigmouth, I didn't know tkmaxx was online! not good! there goes my sunday and lots of money Grin

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 08/08/2010 10:16

I sympathise my sister has narrow/ low instep feet and has real trouble finding comfortable shoes as well. It is all about your experience when attempting to buy shoes I suppose, whenever I go shoe shopping I have to reject 90 % of the shoes I like because I cannot even get my wide/ high instep feet into them and that goes triple for boots.

Although the online offer looks better I am wary of purchasing this way. It is only by trying on the shoe that you can really see if it fits so I ideally like to try before I buy - unless it is the brand/style I already know fits.

New look and M&S have wide fitting shoes- I think Marisota has the best range though.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 08/08/2010 10:27

I laugh in the face of shops that do "wide fittings". Ha! (that was me laughing in their faces).

Before I had children I found it almost impossible to buy shoes -- I have very wide and very deep feet but with a comparatively narrow heel. It would take all day trying on everything in all available shops to find something that would fit, and then I'd have no choice over style. Then my feet grew when I was pregnant with DS and now I can only wear some Birkenstocks and specialist freaky feet shoes (I need an EEE fitting in Emotion shoes, and they only do wide fits). Sob.

tethersend · 08/08/2010 10:28

Marisota do EEE, prof.

nancy75 · 08/08/2010 10:31

prof, i feel your pain, i recently measured my feet using the info on the duo site, to find shoes the right width i would have to buy a size 11 - even though i am a size 6!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 08/08/2010 13:41

Simply Be
Duo

CarGirl · 08/08/2010 13:44

I share your pain, birkenstocks in the summer, trainers and boots in the winter. I'm only a size 3 or 35 (2.75) and most wide fit places start their shoes from a 4 Sad

2old4thislark · 08/08/2010 13:45

I suggest Evans as well - their sale is on now and some shoes were as little as £10 yesterday.

serenity · 08/08/2010 13:48

I love viva la diva although I buy them because I have large (size 9) feet rather than wide feet.

JulesJules · 08/08/2010 13:56

Birkies here too, and Ugg type boots - I also have wide feet with a very high instep so I can't physically push my feet in to most pairs of boots [sob] They were wide before 2 pgs and now positively Hobbitesque Grin

I need some smarter type shoes - has anyone tried the closed styles of Birkies rather than the clogs?

Some of those shoes at Hotter look quite good, ProfL.

I have a pair of Skechers but they are not really wide enough and aren't comfortable.

CarGirl · 08/08/2010 14:01

Jules I often refer to mine as hooves, mine too were very wide pre-dc with high instep and super narrow heels. I remember as a child never having a choice of what fitted!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 08/08/2010 14:05

Next have launched a range of extra wide fittings in the new Autumn / Winter catalogue....

FGM · 08/08/2010 14:21

What you need is:-

a shoe stretcher (john lewis does this- but not on line, or maybe try a cobbler's shop)

and

leather softener (timpson or any of those shoe and key places)

The shoe stretcher has a wooden foot shape and a screw that drives it apart to stretch to the right width. You spray with the softener and then screw and leave for a day.

My feet grew w pregnancies and I was wide to start with (Hippy barefoot childhood). Works wonders. Smile
