Ive noticed Mac is about a third of the price cheaper but Benefit looks the same.

I love Sephora's own brand. IME it's really good make up and quite cheap - but not tacky. And they give you loyalty card too. You should def check it out.

now i'm jeaalous.... Envy

Bobbi brown

Bare Escentuals. Massive range and pounds for dollars.

kittya · 08/08/2010 22:26

Ive never tried Bare Escentuals, what shop would I buy it from? Does anyone know if Dermaglogica is cheaper?

Aveda is usually a lot cheaper.

YourCallIsImportant · 08/08/2010 22:33

You'll get Bare Escentuals in Sephora.

kittya · 08/08/2010 22:35

Yes, it's a mineral make up which has fantastic powder foundations, bronzers, eyeshadows. Very quick to apply and very effective.

Badpups · 09/08/2010 09:06

Clinique and Bobbi Brown is cheaper. Sephora is great for browsing and they give you free samples if you buy.

If you can get to one of the big outlets then the Cosmetics Company Store has great prices. I always stock up on Clinique in there.

I also love looking in Walgreens. Revlon is cheaper there than in the UK.

RipMacWinkle · 09/08/2010 11:22

When I went I found any of the brands based in the US were cheaper - so clinique, MAC, Benefit, Bobbi Brown

Am very, very jealous. I spent an absolute fortune in Sephora and Bloomingdales

wildfig · 09/08/2010 12:01

I spent so much in Duane Reade in my last trip to New York that Visa called the shop to check my card hadn't been stolen by an international shampoo smuggler.

US drugstores are great hunting grounds for utility brands that you often have to pay way over the odds for here. OPI nail varnish can be loads cheaper - about $5 a bottle. I stock up on Urban Decay Primer Potion (eyeshadow fixer), Seche Vite top coat, Sebastian hair products, Aveda, Jergens cherry almond body lotion, Carmex in the squeezy tube, Redken shampoo, Tweezerman tweezers (make nice stocking fillers!), Microplane footfiles, etc... You just have to watch out for sales tax, which can eat into your bargain margin.

very very Envy

Disclaimer: I never remember to price check a la Tesco before I go, and also have a slightly simplistic wishful thinking approach to currency conversion when abroad, but those are items that feel cheaper in the US.

I always get a full mani/pedi/wax job while I'm there, because that really is a lot cheaper, and usually lasts until well after the credit card bill arrives.

LilMouseyBrown · 09/08/2010 14:02

Hi...most make up, and cosmetics are much cheaper, like half price....Sephora is the best, as you can test out absolutley everything in there...shame we don't have it in the UK anymore...I think we should start a campain to bring it back.....have fun...Debbie

moragbellingham · 09/08/2010 15:08

Sephora in Times Square aaaahhhh. Heaven. Probably not the best branch but I spent a disproportionate amount of time in there when should've been sightseeing I suppose.

Duane Reade is fab for nail varnish like OPI etc.

Whatever happened to the UK branches of Sephora? They just disappeared one day.

Am desperate for someone to try Sonia Kashuk stuff here. Sold in Target stores in US but Space NK in UK Hmm

kittya · 09/08/2010 22:19

Im really curious about Sonia Kashuk, never heard of it here. Is it alot more expensive in Space NK. I really have a soft spot for Smashbox at the moment and am hoping it will be cheaper.

I need to make alist of what to stock up from the drugstore. Are the crest whitening strips cheaper?

Im going to LA and SanFran, does anyone know which is the best for shopping? Im staying in Union Square if that helps.

Thanks in advance.
