Opened old thread thinking "oooh, 104 posts of advice" but it's abit of a bun fightConfused so am starting a new thread for the virgin school runners amongst us.

Slightly tongue in cheek because, of course, there is more to life than this...

but seriously, what are we wearing? Grin

Well done - sceptics stay away!

I am getting these boots www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/footwear/sheepskin-boots/sheepskin-biker-boots/

Further than that i have not thought ...

As an experienced school runner........invest in basics and accessories. Long sleeve tees to layer beneath dresses. Bold jewellery, long scarves will add instant chic to an otherwise bleurgh outfit. Ditto wool/cotton opaques in an array of colours other than black.

You will not necessarily feel like/have lots of time to choose an outfit each morning so make sure that each item goes with at least 3 others in your wardrobe.

Jersey dresses, fab fitting jeans, knitwear, boots: these will be your go-to items so buy wisely - not necessarily expensively (H&M always do a fab range of merino knitwear for around £20 a piece.....ditto jersey dresses and check out knitwear at TK Maxx).

Invest in a really lovely winter coat. Most of the time, your sartorial gorgeousness will be hidden beneath it, so go for something which is a statement in itself :) I have a magenta Paul Smith coat which makes me smile whenever I see it. No matter how dreary the day, nor how casual you are beneath, it will make you instantly look put together.

If all else fails, sling on your trainers and a hoody, whip your hair up into a pony tail and pretend you are off to the gym after school drop off :o

its all about the coat and the boots
being dry when it's wet and warm when it's snowing is the most stylish thing to be.

ooh glad there's a thread where we (hopefully) won't get a flaming!

I've been updating my wardrobe because of weight loss and my maternity/new mummy clothes are falling apart Smile and the school run has been in the back of my mind.
Dd is going to private pre-prep in the countryside, so I will be driving not walking so I have a large umbrella not a waterproof -phew the thought of trying to find a nice waterproof was just tooo stressful!

any way I have smart jeans - dark highish waist to avoid muffin tops, one pair skinny bootcut one pair skinny ankle crops. I also have some lovely black leggings from FWM.

several cashmere v necks, a grey jersey blazer, a couple of wrap/ waterfall cardi's and a lovely black peacoat.

I don't wear flat shoes but just bought these which I love!

I'm stuck on a handbag tho' maybe

I'd like something a little more funky but I always end up with classic slightly 'old lady' pieces Grin

anyone else got some hidden gems?

Oh oh am so excited to find this thread Blush I have my DS starting school in Sept and he is my first and only child at moment.

So I am a school gate newbie...I havbe found myself wondering a lot about daytime wear and really want to the GOK 24 key items thing but I am not working and dont need workwear type clothes anymore.

I dont not want to fall into the trap of looking frumpy through lazy/practicalness or the hoody and trainers, which is exactly what would happen if I dont sort it out.

TWAS I lurrrvvveee them boots - how many season would you expect them to last? They are expensive but I could stretch.....

QueuePosition3 · 08/08/2010 12:02

my tip is to get a job.

namechange100 · 08/08/2010 12:07

QueuePosition3 ?

Were you referring to me? You do not know any of my background so how can you just say that?

Hmmmmmm: Envy

QueuePosition3 · 08/08/2010 12:07

namechange100 · 08/08/2010 12:12

Oh! But you had to wear clothes for work right? Grin

Anyway to clarify I will be working for myself on a part-time basis. Previously I have worn suits/formal office wear which I was used to shopping for, now I need to re-adjust to buying daywear that's not just my usual jeans.

QueuePosition3 · 08/08/2010 12:22

yes when workign from home VERY hard.
maybe say i will only wear jeans 4/7 days.
a good mini skirt with leggings/tights and boots is ok as wheny ou get home you can jsut wear the leggings - shove the skirt on when the door goes!

carriedababi · 08/08/2010 12:23

Grin

TwasEverThus · 08/08/2010 12:32

Don't know fo sure about the boots, Namechange. I do know that the Celtic Sheepskin stuff I have had in the past is v good quality; also, I think they are nappa leather rather than suede on the outside so can be proofed and polished.

So I am going to risk it, anyway!

QueuePosition3 · 08/08/2010 13:35

Yea report back

nancydrewrocked · 08/08/2010 17:30

A decent coat is essential since that is pretty much all anyone will see from September through to March.
