Outfit needed for 18mo boyish girl for her christening

Hello. I need help in finding something for my daughter to wear to her pwn christening a week on Sunday. She's a huge tomboy, so am really struggling to picture her in any of the dresses I've seen in the shops or on the internet.

She does have dresses in her wardrobe, so it's not beyond comprehension for her to wear one on her own christening day, but I don't want anything to froo froo, and something perhaps white with some colour in it, rather than all white and angelic. Something a bit funky maybe.

Any ideas?

tethersend · 05/08/2010 18:16

What about a sailor suit? or sailor dress?

tethersend · 05/08/2010 18:30

Or something a bit retro?

accessorizequeen · 05/08/2010 23:11

What about this one or cute stripe knit

happy dress?

employmentlawquery · 06/08/2010 00:14

little white dungarees

aaaw

colditz · 06/08/2010 00:16

She's 18 months old, she's not a tomboy, she's a baby. She doesn't even know what it means to be a boy or a girl. Put her in clothes you'd like to see her wearing because I guarantee she doesn't give a flash fried crap.

employmentlawquery · 06/08/2010 00:24

If you went for white dungies, would any of these do as a funky addition?

I also note that monsoon have a sale atm, with various cardies, you could go for a little white/ pretty vestie and a fun cardie on top.

(Mind you, what would I know, I have a DS )

MrsRhettButler · 06/08/2010 00:58

i agree with colditz... but if you are sure shes a tomboy then maybe this or this in white?

Concordia · 06/08/2010 00:59

i think the monsoon dresses are nice.
we didnt' want anything too frilly and over the top for DD (she was twelve months at the time of hers) I chose a plain ivory one but they do have lots with a hint of colour. They look nice and a bit special without being ridiculous and in the sale the prices are probably quite good.

Concordia · 06/08/2010 01:00

agree with colditz about the tomboy thing, although DD still crawl around the church floor amongst the big children in her pretty white dress afterwards, so i guess i know what you mean (our church is VERY informal)

Concordia · 06/08/2010 01:01

can't believe i am posting something fairly constructive on a style and beauty thread.... perhaps the time of night is getting to me.
(actually it's only my children's clothes i even manage to think about).

I really like the one that tethersend posted at 18:30.

Colditz, that was unhelpful. The OP is trying to find clothes she'd like to see her wearing so I'm not sure what your point is?

DrivenToDistraction · 06/08/2010 09:33

I like the tethersend linked to too.

also retro

very stylish, certainly not sickly sweet. This shape of dress is the best on toddlers IMO.

DrivenToDistraction · 06/08/2010 09:40

mmmm. That first link isn't the dress I meant, sorry. I love the second one.

Crazycatlady · 06/08/2010 09:53

This is lovely

DrivenToDistraction · 06/08/2010 10:01

Indeed it is Crazycatlady, that (IMHO) ideal toddler shape again too. I like this one from there too, is less girly.

Boobz · 06/08/2010 10:23

I couldn't find anything nice in Monsoon when I looked.. but those are lovely.

Am leaning towards Tether's retro option though, or my own butterfly Name it dress.

Thanks for ideas ladies.

The butterfly name it dress is out of stock, they do have a similar spotty one though.

Crazycatlady · 06/08/2010 10:42

The retro dress is a gorgeous colour, and will look striking in the photos too in a way that a patterned dress might not.

Also the cap sleeves will be handy if it's a bit chilly. You could easily pair it with tights and boots if it turns out to be a cold day.
