new / extended life for the Best Beach Dress

Does anyone remember a thread in early July about this Autograph beach dress for £15?

I bought one, mine is pillar box red which no longer seems to be available, but anyway...

I have been wearing this on nice warm summers days, usually with a white vest underneath as it's pretty low cut, and with white 3/4 length leggings.

What (if anything) can I put with it to get a bit more use out of it in the autumn? Or should I just accept that it's a barbecue-only dress?

(I know it was only £15 but it feels nice on and I like the colour)

Yes I remember, I bought it and sent it back cos it was so low cut.
The red was a brilliant colour though, so I was mightily disappointed.

I think it would be too thin to extend it's life into Autumn.
But then again I regret sending it back and not putting a vest under it now!

I think that if you were to wear it with a long sleeved dark grey top underneath and with thick grey wool tights then it would look nice. Maybe with a cropped jacket like this?? Really does depend on how thin the dress is! Hope that helps.

Oh dear, no - I don't think it could be any use for A/W,unless it perhaps is useable as a top over jeans, with a cardigan or blazer. Then again, I thought it was horrible irl, sorry.

Not at all sure about white leggings either, sorry.

OK, now I feel as though I've been going around looking a prat all summer .

I guess I was wondering whether it had some future as a sort of tunic type thing in a similar way to how lulabella suggests. But it probably is too thing to be sensible and too long really to be like a tunic.

Oh well, at least it wasn't expensive.

How long is it on you? If mini dress length and not too clingy fitting, maybe with a black cami, black opaques and a boyfriend cardigan?

Feel free to ignore me though because I know nothing - I just don't like white leggings. It was horrible irl ON ME, rather than full stop - and I had literally just bought a Vivienne Westwood dress a little while before trying it on, so it was never going to compare!

Sorry for being stupidly blunt earlier.

no, don't worry, not your fault - just having a bit of a confidence crisis about my clothes generally at the moment.

I've gained a lot of weight (for me) over the last few months, hence why I'm keen to make more use of stuff I have already rather than buying more. Also explains the appeal of something made of soft jersey that drapes and is comfortable rather than cutting into me.

Sorry, wasn't meant to be one of those AIBU-by-stealth type threads either!

Have you tried it over skinny-ish or straight leg jeans?

tulpe · 06/08/2010 07:39

Link won't work for me.

I have found that jersey beach dresses can work in early autumn with leggings or skinny jeans and a tee or vest layered beneath and a light-ish cardi. If you are feeling conscious of your weight, don't try the dress over boyfriend or boot-leg style jeans; you will feel huge and lumpy

TBH, the fabric tends to look just "wrong" for anything other than warm-ish days. I have several jersey dresses that I live in over the summer and always leave them hanging in my wardrobe after putting the rest of my summer clothes away.

You also need to consider which colour of leggings to go for. Black against a bright summer red may look too harsh.
