Dh has recently started a new job and we have just been invited to the annual dinner dance next month. At the time I will be 8 months pregnant and need to find something to wear without breaking the bank.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation and what did you do/wear?. I've never been very good at this sort of thing even when I'm not having to take a huge bump into consideration.

Trouseurs or skirt and top, or dress??. Want to make a good impression when meeting dh's new boss Eek!

What about a black wrap dress with some gorg strappy shoes?

Try funmum click on occasion wear for more formal stuff. Everything is dead cheap as they are at the end of their sale.

If you have a Formes shop nearby, they have very nice stuff, have a look here
Also Isabella Oliver seems nice

Top Tip about FunMum - I am in the same position and have just ordered a posh top from their site!

I think top and trousers is best - I tried on an evening dress today in front of friends and there was much hysteria. I think that at 8 months you are basically a freak.

Frenchgirl · 24/08/2005 21:06

or this , maybe with a pretty scarf, or long sparkly earings, sexy shoes....

Bramshott · 24/08/2005 21:10

I like the linen dress on business bump and it's in the sale . . .

Thanks for all the links and sugestions. It looks like there's some nice stuff out there so at least i feel a bit more confident that i'll be able to get something decent.

I'll also have to persuade dh that a shopping trip to Manchester/Liverpool really would be a good idea (Honest darling, you'll have a great time )

I went to a wedding recently _ I'm 36 weeks - and bought a lovely simple black dress from Dorothy Perkins for £25 - teamed it with a lovely head piece with feathers, brooch, large earrings and matching pink shoes and it went down a treat and it didn't cost me the earth! I would def go down the dress route - trousers don't seem to flatter the bump and you could end up looking like John Wayne as you waddle along - at least in a dress everyone will know you're a woman! I still can't understand why being pregnant means you have to pay double for anything decent - seems very unfair to me! Hope you find something you like. Have you also had a look at TopShop Maternity? You can buy online if there isn't one near you.

How about Jojobebemaman or Blooming Marvellous? I got a great dress for £10 in the sale at Jojo that was suitable for our Spring Ball. For a dinner dance I would say a dress would be better but wear comfy shoes. I was 36 weeks pregnant at our ball and spent most of my time with my feet up on a chair as they were so swollen in my little black heels. What is your DH expected to wear (ie suit or DJ?) This will give you an idea of the formality of it all. Treat yourself to having your hair done or something nice if you want a confidence boost. Hope you enjoy it. I am sure you will.

I have a gorgeous black sheer top with diamante which I wore to a good friends wedding - I was 36 weeks pregnant at the time and felt great in it.

What size are you?

CountessDracula · 09/09/2005 17:31

how about this

Thomcat · 09/09/2005 17:35

I vote for Isabella Oliver as well, lovely clothes, comfy, wash well, and the bits I have I reckon can be worn when I'm not pregnant.
