I bought a TORN blouse in the sales and...

.. don't want to take it back as I really like it (and probably can't anyway as it was a few weeks ago). Just wondering if anyone knows if it can be mended??

It's a black, sheer silk blouse with bell sleeves. Sounds weird but it's lovely -apart from the holes! I didn't realise until I got home that the material has pulled away from the cuffs in 2/3 places(which are like a 'rim' of thicker material not like a shirt cuff IYSWIM). Sorry, that's probably not a great description. Anyway, I am clueless when it comes to sewing/mending things but looking at the fabric I can't imagine it can be sewn together as it's very thin.

So, any ideas?? Wunderweb? Glue? Wear it once and throw it in the bin? It was cheap but I'd like to be able to wear it more than once if possible...

How long are the sleeves? If long could they be shortened to 3/4 length?

Ask at a dry cleaners? I think they do repairs.

take it to your local dry cleaner - they usually offer a mend and alteration service.

You should be able to put a little tuck around the "cuff" So.....turn sleeve back once as if you were rolling it up.... little holes should now be at end of sleeves ....run a running stitch round thereby hiding them in new seam... I hope that makes sense. If you use a matching thread and little stitches it shouldn't show.

Could you/a tailor sew a little strip of ribbon round both cuffs to disguise teh tears?

Wow - I really didn't think anyone would answer! The sleeves are full length. I'll have to try it on again to see if the sleeves are long enough trumpton. And yes, PlumSykes it will definitely be a tailor rather than me!

In fact, having though some more, you'd probably be better of just buying some balck fabric, and having a tailor removing teh existing suffs, and making some new ones, which 'trap' the frayed/torn bits of the sleeves. Wouldn't cost much-£20 maybe?

PlumSykes -I didn't notice the typos! I'll take it into the tailor and ask them if they can do that. Frayed is exactly the right word, it escaped me earlier.

As you only bought it a few weeks ago I'd try and take it back (if they have others in the store you could exchange it for). If not then I'd also say the tailor is your best bet.
