IPL - Anyone had it done?

I'm seriously thinking about IPL as a hair removal option. Has anyone had it done, or have any opinions about it?

Had it done 5 years ago. Full leg, bikini and upper lip. changed my life. I was very dark and flourishing though! Doesnt get rid of all 100%, but just a very mimimal and manageable amount left. I should get an annual blast but can't be bothered, as it's so minimal!

Do you specifically mean IPL or just any laser hair reduction/removal?

snook1 · 04/08/2010 13:01

I'm thinking specifically IPL, but if there are other options or methods that have similar results I'm happy to hear about them

Had a stalin-type moustache til I had it IPL'd 8 years ago - best thing I ever did. There has been some regrowth over the past year or 2, so I'm just having a top up course at the moment.

I've also started using Philips Lumea home IPL kit on my legs and bikini after my wonderful mum treated me to it. It looks promising, but there is a huge catch - it's a lower power level than the professional IPL kits, and so hair isn't permanently killed off. You basically have to use it every 4 weeks for the rest of your life for the hair never to come back.

If you can afford the professional IPL treatment then definitely do it, if you can't than Lumea is a good second best.

Thanks for the responses. Really helpful and has made me think that I'll go for it.

Just a word of caution - Check out which machine the clinic uses and always try and find someone who's been before.

I'm on my 12th session!
Obviously, I'm not a happy bunny at my results (or lack of them).
Always budget for the maximum number of sessions they recommend/guess at and if it takes any less it's a bonus.

Having said all that, in general, most of my friends who have had it done say that they are glad they did.

I've just bought a boots ipl machine, just starting treatment this week. I have soe facial hair & this seems to be the only one on the market suitable. Has anybody used it before??

lilly153 · 05/08/2010 21:57

yeah i saw the boots one was the only one that did facial hair as well but what put me off that one is the bulbs are really expensive to replace, im going to buy one at the end of the month i was really considering the remington i-light one argos have it down to £250 has anybody used this one?

dlass would be intrested to know how you get on with the boots one if you dont mind letting me know

littleredsquirrel · 05/08/2010 22:26

I'm about to buy the Boots one too so will feedback. The reviews online are amazing and I am a hairy monster.

moragbellingham · 06/08/2010 15:25

Are the Boots etc. good for legs?
Can't afford salon/clinic laser for legs but would be willing to cough up for a home kit.

You're usually advised not to go out in the sun before clinic appts so I'd be curious to know, if you're doing it every four weeks, what then?
Is it less effective?

Formerdiva - Is the hair regrowth finer, do you think it'll ever completely go? e.g. epilating regularly has reduced mine.

Josy96 · 16/08/2010 18:20

I have been doing IPL for sometime, but for rejuvenation...I usually go to the Pulse light clinic they are very good, the nurse has been doing it for over 10 years. I am very impressive with the results.
