I am a fan of getting back, neck and shoulder massages and have had the standard swedish ones and aromatherapy.

Am just looking at a beauty salon price list and have come across hot stone massages.

Has anyone had one of these and how exactly do they differ from the normal ??

I am tempted but am worried that someone is gonna come and put hot stones on my back and leave me for 45 mins!!!

hmmm... I'm also a big, BIG fan of back, neck shoulder massage etc. DH booked me in for a hot stone at a very fancy spa and honestly, I didn't think it was worth the £95 it cost! Before the treatment, I had to fill in a lengthy health questionnaire and preferences for the massage. Now it was a full body massage, but I said clearly on the form that I suffer from neck and shoulder tension and therefore wanted them to concentrate on that area. Well,it lasted about 55mins, I think and only about 5-10mins was spent on the back & shoulders. Each leg and arms were done individually and I didn't really like the sensation of my legs being massaged with an oily stone, tbh it was tickly and just irritating! And she put little stones in between each toe and left them there while she massaged the legs. Weird! Why get me to spend ages filling out that form just to then completely ignore it?!? Then to top it all, just when I was starting to try and get relaxed....neeee-naw, neeeee-naw, the fire alarm went off and he therapist left me naked covered in towels on the bed while she went to see what was up, coming back what seemed like ages later to say "oh, it was only a false alarm, people are forever smoking in the bedrooms upstairs" (spa was in a hotel). Grrrr. So the whole expereince was not so good, and seemed like it was over waaaay too soon.

So, in a nutshell, if I were you, if you're happy with the swedish/aromatherapy massage, stick with it!
