I am going to have to try and bleach my own hair

any tips?
Its already dyed blonde, natural colour dark brown. The hairdresser does it but this month for various reasons it's just not possible to get her to do it.
I need my roots doing desperatly (sp) and need to put an ash toner through it, so has anyone done it? Should I bleach the roots or just use a toner all over?
if it all goes wrong I'm dying it brown!

Oh God... I wouldn't do this at home by yourself. If there is any way you can get it done professionally I would do that. If you can't (and I do understand that it might not be possible) can you get a friend to help you?

I'm sure someone experienced will come along to assist shortly but I remember trying this at home myself (a long time ago) and ended up with a burned scalp as it wouldn't take, etc, etc. I ended up rushing to hairdresser's in a panic as my hair was wrecked.

madness lays that way.... get yourself to a professional

you will have to bleach the roots befroe you put the toner on otherwie the roots will not take the toner at all, they will stay dark brown.

How are you going to do the back? Basically you have seen the hairdresser do it, you'd need to use a comb handle to divide the hair, flop it over to one side and brush both sides of the parting you've made, then use the comb handle again to make a new parting further on, flip it over and brush both sides of that parting. Down one side, then starting in the middle again, down the other side.

Back trickier but essentially, you'd have to feel your way through the same thing, take the comb handle and divide a slice across the back of your head, then maybe clip it up and do another one further down etc. You will be slower than a hairdresser so will need to watch how long the bleach is on IYSWIM

I mean you need one of those long thin handled combs with a brush on the end to apply it, you'd need to brush the bleach either side of each parting you make. Maybe I can't explain it very well. You might well find a video on youtube showing you how it is done. Touching up your roots or something like that.

dammit i know you're all right....
Thanks for the tips zzzen, it sounds tricky, i was hoping someone would say 'yeah it's easy, just rub the bleach into the roots, stick on some toner like you would a normal hair dye and ta daaa!'
I remember when i tried to dye my own hair back when i was a teenager and getting a slight chemical burn on my face, that was pretty grim, don't really want to go there again!

here

Here look this is the first one that came up when I googled and she does it a bit differently. she talks a lot but if you get through the first 3 minutes, she does a speeded up video of her bleaching the roots. She is just using the gloves to rub the bleach over the roots, not a brush-comb thingy like I suggested.

you might find you have blonde roots that are not the same colour exactly as the rest of the blonde hair - always a risk I'd imagine.

I would put face cream on my face before doing any dying, also makes it easier to wipe anything off and have something handy to wipe your face with.

I don't think it is that hard tbh but self-bleached hair sometimes looks very yellow and uneven. I don't know if it is down to the product or the technique though.
