Hair advice

Hi Ladies

After advice please. I am almost 40 and really should know myself by now!

Since having my little boy a few years ago I have yukky dark blonde/light brown (with more than a few grey hairs at the front!) Before that I used to have it hightlighted - so more nice blonde - every 6/8 weeks and would straighten it.

My hair is naturally wavy/curly and as I don;t have time to straighten it and have had it up in a ponytail/bun thing almost every day since he was born I think it is time for a better solution.

However, I have never really done the hairdresser thing. Although I went to one every 6/8 weeks for a few years, I kept the same style and colours as it was easier. I never really know what to ask for and inevitably end up with a trim.

So, I am thinking of having my hair cut shorter - to stop me putting it up. I like Kate Humble's hair (I think mine would be that curly if I went shorter but don;t really know what to do.

Can anyone advise me. Do I go to a hairdresser first for a consultation and then make an appointment? Do most hairdressers know how to cut crly/wavy hair? Should I just ask for the hairdressers advice for a style?

Sorry, feel that at 40 I should know the answers to these questions ...

TIA

Instead of phoning the salon to make the appointment pop in, they will be able to see your hair and work out how long the restyle should take. Trust me there is nothing worse for a hairdresser than a client booking in for a trim and coming in and deciding to have a complete restyle, messes up the whole day - unhappy hairdresser = not her/his best work.
Buy a few hair mags and I'm sure you will find a style you think will suit you, the stylist will tell you if they don't think it will fit your face shape or lifestyle.
We are all trained to cut curly and wavy hair, you need to remember though is that if you have curly hair and get it cut shorter it will appear curlier than before, the weight of the length pulls the curls down.
Hope that helps

Thanks SESF. I just wish I knew which salon to go to (just recenty moved here ...)

Geat that it will be curlier if it gets cut shorter. I seem to be 'into' curls at the mo. I really don't have the time/inclination to straighten it anymore.

Thanks again
