I'm planning on making my wedding dress, and casting around for inspiration!

I'm vaguely planning on a strapless, lace up back, in silk dupion (because I have found the perfect fabric, a bright goldy yellow), but I'm still looking for the perfect design to copy be inspired by.

Any links, ideas, photos, suggestions etc etc much appreciated!

Years ago I fell in love with a dress called by Jenny Packham I think it was called Nancy
I couldnt afford it on my budget then, its probably within the same budget now second hand

bronze · 25/07/2010 16:01

found it here

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/07/2010 20:15

Mine is on my profile

I love Maggie Sottero dresses (good website as well). Suzanne Neville and Alan Hannah are beautiful. Pronovias are gorgeous but tend to use a lot of lace

My favorites are

lazaro

the sophie by Packham

the gabriella and lola

Charlotte Balbier does very pretty designs, def worth a look through the website.

LetThemEatCake · 25/07/2010 21:12

(pic is not me)

Ewe · 25/07/2010 21:14

My fav on the Charlotte Balbier site is the Tabitha, page two under imagination collection.

Fabulous, loads of sites I hadn't looked at yet. Keep 'em coming!

Mine is on my profile. Its a Sophia Tolli, similar to Maggie Sottero styles and prices.

Tillyscoutsmum · 25/07/2010 22:41

Essence have some lovely ones too

KristinaM · 25/07/2010 23:50

is strapless & lace up back not a bit....well boring / predictable? Don't you want something a bit different if you are making it yourself?

Hopefully · 26/07/2010 07:40

Kristina I know it's boring/predictable, but it's also a really good shape on me. I'm broad shouldered and hourglass, so lots of more unusual shapes are unflattering somewhere.

If it helps it'll be made in bright yellowy gold with aqua embroidery on the bodice and aqua underskirts (or possibly pink. I can't decide)

Gold and aqua doesnt sound boring at all!!!

sorry if i was tactless, its just if you are going to put all that work into it you want it to look really special and unique, rather then something you picked up in the sales at Brides R us

you want everyone to say

" Isn't her dress FABULOUS!! You know she designed and made it herself!!!"

I am shocked / disappointed by how many wedding dresses just look the same, despite the thousands of pounds spent on them

srapless - check
white/cream/ivory satin - check
long gored or A line skirt - check
bit of embroiderie / beading - check

etc etc etc

i have seen more interesting styles in evening wear / red carpet than in bridal wear TBH

re shapes - but you are right that you need a shape to suit you. i actually thought that halter necks were recommnded for broad shoulders but i might be wrong. i am the opposite ( very narrow shoulders) so what do i know

PandaEis · 26/07/2010 14:48

mines on my profile

i like this one

DastardlyandSmugly · 26/07/2010 14:52

Mine is also on my profile but is not a traditional wedding dress. You can see the style in the black & white pics and the colour of it further down.

FluffyDonkey · 26/07/2010 14:58

I wore this

this

You can take the bolero off - and it's got thin straps.

I am also broad shouldered and hourglass figure and it looked fantastic (even if I do say it myself)

Absolutely adore this dress - also the site has many other dresses to look at.

Personally I chose not to have lace ups as they take such a long time to do up (a friend was 45 minutes late to her wedding cos they couldn't lace her up!)

Hopefully · 26/07/2010 20:49

Yay, thanks for the ideas! Off to investigate every single link/profile.

Any more for any more?

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 26/07/2010 22:36

mine is on my profile, I still think nearly 10 years later that I would choose something similar.

brimfull · 26/07/2010 22:55

I agree with Kristina, too many strapless wedding dresses these days, they all look the same.
