Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but am 4 weeks engaged and we've set the date for the end of October. All well and good but I am carrying an extra 3 stone post back operation....longer engagement not an option due to wanting to get pregnant asap (am 39) help or direct me to the right place please?

Best way to shift the flab quick (beyond eat less move more which I am doing )

If you want to fall pregnant, then a sensible eat less move more approach to losing weight might be a helpful thing in multiple ways re conception, your body's response to pregnancy and maximising your and the baby's good health at the birth.

I got married at 40 (we got engaged in September and married in December for similar reasons) and now have DS despite some issues with polycystic ovaries. I find that reducing carbohydrate intake is very helpful for me in losing weight.

I presume you're taking a folic acid supplement.

Cutting down on alcohol is generally advised if you want to get preggers, and alcohol is empty calories anyway.

You could try visiting your GP to discuss, especially if the weight is related to health issues anyway. Sometimes there are specific schemes associated with GP surgeries eg cheap access to gyms "on prescription"

Other than that, many congrats on the engagement and bonne chance with the ahem baby dancing.

Weights to maximise muscle mass which burns more calories at rest.

Core strength - pilates etc - to help your back and your posture and strengthen your core muscles to 'hold' the flab in and do a bit every day.

If your gym offers it then bodypump is evil but effective.

Focus on the buts that will be exposed by your dress and find a flattering style that balances out your overall shape.

Lots of water to minimise water retention. I agree that alcohol is the drink of the devil. Potato is food of the devil - the starch is in everything and lots of snacks which are 'bad' are potato based.

Swap your chair for a Swiss ball - legs, bum and stomach workout as you sit.

Fidget! It burns calories. Incorporate mini workouts into your day.

Invest in some wrist and hand weights so you expend more energy when walking.

Thank you so much ladies (I presume rather than dads) Really REALLY heartening to hear about sucessful pregnancy post 40. Its a huge issue for me as i am marrying an only child whose parents are desperate for grandchildren. As much as on one hand I think, what will be will be...the other side of it is I am worried I may have left it too late!

I think you might want to try WeightWatchers. In 3 months you could lose a good chunk of weight and it is quite flexible in terms of what you can eat, which makes it easier than other diets to stick to.

PS My mum was 41 when she had me so you're not old!

Have you looked at Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet? Even if you don't follow it, I think it's a good read.

I've just lost 9lbs on it, in a couple of weeks.

I've also mentioned it far too many times on MN recently. I swear, I am neither Neris not India
