Any suggestions for softening the backs of pumps?

Just that really - I've worn them once and they've made my ankles red raw. I need to wear them again tomorrow so suggestions much appreciated!

pee?

My mum used to rub Vaseline into our new shoes, which softened them - worked on leather, don't know about other materials though.

Aside from that, maybe

And a plaster on the sore bits too!

Hammer them! Seriously. Put the back of the pump on a hard surface and hammer the inside of the back of the shoe. Just whack it a few times. It works really well!

Rub a coin on the inside of them to soften the backs.

Stand on the backs and use Compeed

Thanks everyone, am off to do a combination of the above (except maybe the peeing )

dry bar of soap rubbed on the back?

3littlebears · 23/07/2010 07:48

Washing up liquid rubbed into the back softens them. And there is, or certainly used to be, a spray shoe leather softener that you could buy in a wee can in the cobblers.

I have the same problem.I have just bought a pair of heel inserts you stick on the back of the shoe-internally.They are soft and padded and are meant to prevent rubbing.Try your local shoe shops or a big Boots for something similar.

where them standing on the backs while at home. Always works for me , the only thing to be careful of is not to do it too much and make them loose.
