Wtf with maternity trousers/jeans having acres of material to cover the bump??!!

Only 6 weeks atm but pretty bloated and wanted to get something comfy for work...all the farking trousers/jeans seem to sit under the bump with massive amounts of fabric to hold the bump...which is fine if you are 6months+ but in the early stages when you don't have a bump and just bloat, its farking useless

You could wear your usual jeans/trousers with a slightly longer top and use a hairband to hold them together? (Put one end of hairband through button hole and knot, use other end to go around button to keep it all up. Does that make sense???)

I did this up until about 6 months. Only had one pair of maternity jeans. However once I got massive, the trousers with loads of elastic to cover the bump were way more comfy than the under the bump ones.

jeminthecellar · 22/07/2010 18:41

Just wear baggy clothes, or go up a size for now.

colditz · 22/07/2010 18:43

Just get bigger trousers.

IPredictADiet · 22/07/2010 18:45

you need a bump band.

Leave the button on you trousers undone, or safety pin them where comfy. bump band over the top to hold the trousers up.

or just get the under the bump trousers with no extra fabric - these area nice on

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/07/2010 18:45

I did that last pg and within weeks I was out of them so I thought be more economical to go right into pg trousers...

But either way, my point is that the maternity tat they have out there atm rubbish....would it be worth looking online you think?

I don't like under the bump trousers or jeans

I am, unreasonably, in foul mood with it...can I blame the hormones?!!

Igglybuff · 22/07/2010 18:48

I think you'll find a lot more things online than in store. The only decent maternity wear instore I found was JoJo Maman stuff.

Isabella Oliver was a fav of mine. Pricey but really nice stuff.

Igglybuff · 22/07/2010 18:49

Now you've got me looking! these look lovely

Igglybuff · 22/07/2010 18:52

{grin] yep the hormones can take the blame!

eastendmummy · 22/07/2010 19:12

Topshop maternity jeans are great as have stretchy bits but are just their normal jeans. I'm still wearing mine 3 months after giving birth - must stop eating cake!

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/07/2010 20:32

Iggy - I've got hips...those trousers have side pockets...can you imagine how huge I would look..Gok would have heart attack if bought those!

OP posts:
Igglybuff · 22/07/2010 20:57

how wide are your hips? I have hips and a butt (a combination that many clothes manufacturers cannot cope with) but would wear them - probably in a bigger size so the pockets don't bulge. Sod gok! (ok I didn't mean that about gok - I love him!)

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/07/2010 21:42

Wide....think I'm about 44 inch...and I find those pockets, once you have sat down, still stick out when you stand up ...I mean I don't need any extra on my hips as it is

Think those trousers suited for preggers posh types who don't wrinkle anything when sat down as so slim!

V elegant though I have to say!

A pair of those stretchy metal extendy button things for fat blokes is your friend at this stage - available from all good haberdashers.

Igglybuff · 23/07/2010 06:57

Pussin I know the types. When I was preggers I was hoping to be all glam etc etc but was big, sweaty, grumpy and generally shabby. I just ended up buying loads of long t shirts from dorothy perkins (ones from the tall section) although treated myself to an isabella wrap dress! Very comfy it was.

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/07/2010 19:56

Iggly I was huge when pg...gained 4st and am only 5ft 2"...my sis affectionately nicknamed me Mount Etna and by the end of the pg, none of my shoes were fitting and I was schleping around in flip flops!

Igglybuff · 23/07/2010 20:01

I didn't step on the scales when pregnant. I didn't dare. My FIL told me (after I had had DS) that I had been huge and ate like a horse

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/07/2010 20:04

I was constantly hungry...from about 2 mins post sex to 2 weeks before DS was born..if I didn't eat, I felt sick

Strangely enough, this time around I am feeling quite detached from food...actually have a tub of chocolate ice cream that reamins half full...this is unusual...DH is shocked at my saying no to junk

Am not complaining though, still haven't lost all my baby weight from DS and scared of getting huge again and then post pg ending up on C4 documentary where I am winched to the car etc

I don't normally shop in Next but I found they had the best selection of maternity jeans. I bought some really comfy under the bump ones from there.
You have to buy online though and they make you sign up for the directory. You can't pay straight away- bloody cheeky.

H and M also have a few nice things. I bought some work trousers there- they come up very small though.

Igglybuff · 23/07/2010 20:56

I love those documentaries!!
I was similar - eat or be sick. Used to have food by my bed ready to eat as soon as I woke up. Now I still eat loads but BF is my excuse

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/07/2010 21:35

Did you eat crackers at 4am?? DH used to wake up and find me munching the jacobs...bed was full of crumbs when I woke properly in am

OP posts:
Igglybuff · 23/07/2010 22:04

I ate at all hours
Used to make up little tupperware pots of crackers and cheese. Mmmmmmm. I would forget I'd have a stash and find them a week or so later under the bed

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/07/2010 22:44

That is nothing compared to me...I dug out one of my handbags once and found a pg urine sample that the midwife had given back to me...

DS was 18months at the time

Igglybuff · 24/07/2010 06:21

Ok you win!!!!! I can't beat 18 month old + old wee

BaggedandTagged · 24/07/2010 06:31

Monsoon dont do maternity wear (tht i've seen) but they do have a lot of skirts with elasticated waists and empire line dresses which have been the mainstays of my maternity wardrobe. I just bought 2 sizes up from normal.

Teamed with M&P maternity camisoles and shrugs they look really nice.
