What's the deal with Fit Flops?

I have been looking at the Fit Flops & am wondering whether to try a pair. There seems to be a few different styles - which are the best ones? I am after comfort plus a leg workout - am also 26 weeks pregnant so not too much of a workout LOL

Just bought a pair at the weekend and they are pretty comfy and very light, just need to get used to toeposts. Haven't tried to drive in them yet. Got Walkstar 3 in oyster, more comfy than the fabric strap ones, but was v tempted by the bright pink version !

TrillianAstra · 20/07/2010 16:14

It will never be much of a workout - you're only walking.

I find mine really comfy - after lots of ballet flats it feels like I'm walking on a giant cushion.

The instability thing might not be great in pregnancy if you have SPD or similar.

FindingMyMojo · 20/07/2010 16:22

LOVING I haven't tried FitFlops- but I wear MBT's. I was advised not to start wearing them whilst pregnant. They are OK for pregnant people to wear, but they don't advise starting to wear them as they mess with your alingment/core stability etc.

Possibly fitflops are the same?

meerkate · 20/07/2010 16:34

i love my MBTs, and that's why I got fitflops 3 weeks ago - even I couldn't really justify wearing MBTs throughout the summer! I find them wonderfully comfortable APART FROM THE TOEPOSTS. I think most people seem to cope with them much better than I have - think masses of plasters, sores on big toe and 2nd toe both sides!! But after 2 weeks of gritting my teeth it's all a lot better, I can now walk home from school (1 hr with dawdling kids) no problem, for instance. the cushioning effect of the sole is fab. I can't say they are giving me an amazing work-out but I bought them mainly for comfort so I don't mind. MBTs are loads more wobbly and in comparison fitflops are much easier to get used to, so I don't think the same problems would apply in pregnancy as might to MBTs.

PS my mistake may have been for going for the Bronze Electra style - on the basis that I could then wear them to work, which I can and do. They are more 'dressy' and I bet the toepost on another more sporty version would have been comfier!

Oumasrusks · 20/07/2010 17:04

I am one of the few unlucky ones who can't wear Fitflops . I bought a pair online from John Lewis and they seemed comfy but I got terrible blisters on my one toe and my foot kept slipping out of the shoe. I think it's because I have high arches and they just didn't work for me.

LadySanders · 20/07/2010 17:09

i love mine, they are gold shiny ones (well, i do live in essex)and v comfy especially when pushing laden pram and buggy board around

londonmackem · 20/07/2010 17:12

Persevere with the toe post. My first blister meant I couldn't wear them for about 3 weeks but it has improved and are now really comfy.

TrillianAstra · 20/07/2010 17:46

Get the ones that are made of suedey soft stuff not hard stuff, even if it is sparkly.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/07/2010 18:24

I bought a suedey pair a couple of weeks ago and they are really soft.

I still got a blister the first time I wore them from the toe post which has taken a couple of weeks to heal. They are very squishy under your foot, make a nice change from my birkies

Lotkinsgonecurly · 20/07/2010 18:27

I've got the grey suede effect ones. They are so comfy, really don't look that glam but I have to say I don't care. I can walk for miles in them.

OhCobblers · 20/07/2010 21:20

i got the silver walkstar a few weeks ago.
absolutely no hint of a blister and love them - completely forget i have "shoes" on!!

will buy another pair next year when i can afford them.
by the way i was just looking on Sweaty Betty's website and they have the "jelly" ones and others in their sale. HTH.

kdk · 20/07/2010 21:46

If you've got smallish feet, try the kids' fitflops - about half the price! I've got hugely wide feet but am a size 5.5 and am very comfy in a kids' size 5 which were £30!

TrillianAstra · 21/07/2010 08:52

If you have smallish feet always get kids everything - no VAT!

LadyPeterWimsey · 21/07/2010 08:57

I bought a pair - suedey ones - at the weekend (Jones £40) and thought I'd made a big mistake on Monday. I have high arches and my feet kept slipping out. By Tuesday I didn't want to take them off because they were so comfortable.

Great tip about the kids' ones!

piratecat · 21/07/2010 09:09

i bought some last summer to help my plantar faciitis problem. A pair of comfy summer flips, that was my reason. i have the original jelly ones in yellow !!! I see they ar ein the sale at sweaty betty for £36. If they' had the red ones in my size i would hav got another pair.

I tried on a few pairs in the same size as on one pair the toe post was irritating me.

mY feet have thanked me, and the fitflops are still going strong.

SmacsGonePotty · 21/07/2010 09:10

I don't think there is any sort of 'work out' involved but they are extremely comfy to wear. The toe post popped out of my first pair so I returned them. The second pair seemed very hard around the toe post initially but soon eased off.

wildfig · 21/07/2010 09:40

I've got the Bronze Electras, and some silver Electras from a year or too back - really comfy, and no blisters. The Walkstars I tried when they first came out did rub, and also made my size 8 feet look like they belonged to a male Geology teacher from 1974.

Pinkmarshmallow · 21/07/2010 10:36

mine are soooooooooo comfy, but did take a while to get used to them, they gave me blisters at first, but I persevered and so glad I did.

sazm · 21/07/2010 10:49

i have the usa pro version, which look exactly the same and were £15 from sports direct.
dont know if they give me a workout, but my bad back has improved a lot since i have started wearing them.
the first few days/week i found my feet were slipping out of them and i was ready to bin them!once they were walked in a bit they are SO comfy,i wear them most days now.
