What To Expect From A Spray Tan?

DaisyFields · 20/07/2010 16:01

I'm booked in for my first ever spray tan next week (person with a sprayer, rather than booth) ready for my weekend away.

Can anyone let me know what to expect and what to do beforehand?

Does my skin have to be completely clean (eg. no deodorant/moisturiser)? Will I be completely in the buff, or will I wear those paper knickers? Do I want paper-knicker-shaped tan lines? Should I have my face done?

Any top tips for avoiding orange elbows, streaks and patches, would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Spray tans are fab Daisyfields. I have a shower before I go for a tan and was advised by girl in beauty salon to use Sanex shower gel. I don't wear any deodorant before I go. Also don't apply any mosturiser and don't shave or use exfoliator scrubs on the day as this can interfere with the tan application. You will just need to wear paper knickers; first time I was a bit embarrased but they've seen it all before. Your face is sprayed as well. Make sure you've some loose clothing to wear afterwards and preferably flip flops to minimise tan lines. The tan develops properly overnight leaving you a bronzed goddess the next day (after you shower) Enjoy!

Personally I've never worn the paper nickers; I wear an old bikini, sometimes I keep the top on to get lines, but I'm weird.

Exfoliate & shave/wax the day before, & enjoy!

Make sure you're dry before you dress and rub a teensy bit of moisturiser on any really dry patches or you'll have darker bits.
Go for the lightest colour available to start with because it can be a bit of a shock to go from pale to brown in 10 minutes. Wear old knickers and clothes you don't mind getting a bit of staining on.

Oh, and remember to paint/wipe off afterwards your toenails/fingernails or they'll stain.

my tips

  1. dont be shy although is horrendous
i wore just the pants put MORE moisturieser onyour feet than they do get em to do inside of legs

But don't let them do the inside of your arms.

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the tips. I'll have to write them all in my filofax so I know which day to be doing what

I've heard such great things about them, obviously a million times better for you than the sunbed and I'd never trust myself with the DIY stuff!

So, the day before, I'm going to shave my legs.

On the day, I'm going to use Sanex shower gel but not wear any deodorant or moisturiser (apart from a tiny bit on dry skin), wear some old knickers and flipflops, ask for the lightest shade and ask them to do the inside of my legs but not the inside of my arms.

Afterwards I'm going to wipe my fingernails and toenails and then wash it off before bed (is that right?)

Phew!

Thanks again all.
