Ostrich bags

Are these available for less than £3k? DW quite likes them, was wondering if there was a somewhat 'off-brand' option for getting these perhaps at a similar cost to a designer leather one (say around £1k).

SomeGuy, last week you wanted Mulberry's, this week Ostrich.....who has the bag fetish in this relationship huh!

SomeGuy · 19/07/2010 18:18

well I'm still trying to persuade her that Prada is for chavs, she said she only wanted Ostrich if it wasn't Prada; we're going to Westfield tomorrow to have a look anyway.....

Honestly, I'm not so picky, I'd be far easier to buy for...

Barbsieboo · 20/07/2010 04:53

Ostrich is always expensive as is crocodile .... I guess its because there are less ostriches out there than other sources of leather, its also very unique and soft leather but they do very good ostrich looking leather in the designery brands. Osprey springs to mind. If you want it cheaper then plan a trip to South Africa where there is a good amount of Ostrich leather, poor you that the football is finished though.

kill two birds with one stone and buy mulberry ostrich. I think they often have some at the outlets too. You can call if you don't live nearby and they will do mail order. I don't know the numbers, but if you google mulberry outlets they're easy to find

sorry for sounding like a chav, but Debenhams have Jasper Conran Ostrich leather bags in their sale (or have I been fooled and they're just made to look like Ostrich leather?)

HalfTermHero · 20/07/2010 17:23

Yep, you could try the mulberry outlets. You are quite likey to get a Daria Hobo or even a Bayswater. Reductions can often be really good.

Actually I just came back from South Africa, got DW a springbok cushion, which wasn't particularly cheap actually. Didn't see in ostrich, but wasn't really looking.

Went to Westfield today, to the designer shopping bit, frightful place really, went in Louis Vuitton just browsing really, picked up one of the bags on display (quite a basic bag, nothing special, one of my wife's friend's has it) and some security wanker came over and said 'you're not allowed to touch the bags, you have to ask for help' and then repeated 'you shouldn't have touched that'. I muttered under my breath about him being a wanker and left, regret not having a proper go at him about insulting customers, but anyway, wasn't putting up with that.

The other shops weren't quite as arsey, but generally pretty up themselves, the Prada place had three men in suits looking like spare pricks at a wedding, apparently not doing anything, and two oriental ladies serving. Anyway, I wasn't really keen so we went in Mulberry where they were actually actively friendly and didn't mind you touching their bags.

DW got a Daria Medium Hobo in drizzle grey (new colour/shape, not on website, supposed to be coming out August 1), £550

though what she really wanted was the Mitzy Hobo in Camel Ostrich: www.mulberry.com/#/storefront/c5482/4758/category/ at £3,000

Good choice, Mrs Someguy! The new medium Daria hobo is a great looking bag. I'm glad that Mulberry treated you well, the after service is good too. Any probs in the first 12 months and they will repair, refund or replace with no issues. Nice to have the bag early too, she will be ahead of the fashion pack!
